23 August 1939 Ribbentrop made his historic flight to Moscow to negotiate the
final shape of German-Soviet Pact. After
solving same differences regarding Baltic States,
the Pact was signed.
1.The pact sealed Hitler decision to attack Poland thus effectively
starting WWII
2.It was done at the time of bitter fighting between Japan and Soviet forces at Khalkhin Gol and for Japan it was a betrayal
of Anti-Comintern pact. It helped ""Go
south" fraction in Japanese military to strengthen their position which at
the end led to Pearl Harbour
debacle and release soviet reserve for Stalin "Moscow Offensive".
3.After WWII, The
western border of Soviet Union follow the
Ribbentrop-Molotov demarcation line thus de facto was endorsed by Western
Allied Countries. It shaped Central European political geography for 50 years
and remain in force until fall of Soviet Union.
