ALGIERS BOTANICAL GARDEN
Created in 1832 as a scientific garden and exotic
plants acclimatization of 5 hectares, it was known as one of the most beautiful
gardens in the world.
In 1837 its
area was increased to 18 hectares where palm trees, magnolias, bamboo, cotton,
eucalyptus flourish over that area and ostriches and cassowaries from Australia did
reproduce.
In 1867, the
exploitation of the garden is sold to the Algerian company for a period of 49 years;
the garden was expanded in 1885 under the direction of Charles Riviére with the
hill and its forest appearance (80hectares).
Napoleon visited
the site with both awe and amazement in 1865, Karl Max walked there during his
stay in 1882, and it inspired Pierre Renoir (1881), it is 1914 Régnier the French Architect draws a French
garden, which dates back to current developments.
In November
1942 the botanical garden is occupied by Allied troops (truck repair shop),
then it experienced the bombings of 1943.
It would be important to note that the small baths
were found nearby, while in 1860, we could still see the remains of a large
oval basin with mosaic floor in the main aisle and a Roman building in the
southeast corner.
It goes without saying that Algiers Botanical Garden
is one of the most impressive gardens of Algiers, as it has a wide display of
tropical flora. There are three different sections of the garden: the American
section, the French section and a zoo, moreover, the zoo is home to 100-hectare
fores, and what makes it even more appealing is its distance from the blue
sea--50 meters.
* THE BOTANICAL
GARDEN
Located (near the north entrance, Rue Hassiba Ben
Bouali: created in 1900 and recently renovated, most recently it hosted two
boarders: a boar and a sexagenarian Andean condor "Hector" older than
one hundred years.
* THE FRENCH
GARDEN
This garden is situated around a central monumental aisle
in terrace, adorned with rows of palm trees, and Washingtonian water body. It
is aligned along the axis of the Fine Arts Museum. Three long parallel paths
separate French and English gardens: the alley of Dragon Riders and its famous
arch (Dracaena draco, ex-aisle palms, planted in 1847), ficus aisle or rubber
trees with gnarled and twisted trunks and which the oldest specimen would have
had 150 years.
* THE ENGLISH
GARDEN
Located in the south-east side, built around a shaded
pond, surrounded by large tree creepers that have formed the backdrop in the
filming of Tarzan in 1932 with Johnny Weissmuller. The bend of a path, you come
face to face ornamented with the sculptures of “Chaouias” by Emile Gaudissart (1872-1957).
All around the
boulevard the beautiful avenue coconuts, cross along the offices of the
National Agency for Nature (ANN), founded in 1991, ex. National Institute of
Agronomic Research of Algeria (INRAA), and the Agriculture park . Just nearby, a Japanese
garden has been landscaped with sugar cane, coffee and Chinese fig.

INSTITUTE OF AGRICULTURE TECHNOLOGY (ITMA)
This Institute has replaced the School of Horticulture
in 1978 (founded in 1918), damaged during the earthquake of May 21, 2003, works of rehabilitation and reinforcement are in effect in view of its next reopening as a Museum of fauna and flora .

The school was founded in 1918, damaged during the
earthquake of May 21, 2003, is currently undergoing rehabilitation and
reinforcement for its reopening.
Sooth to say that Nature lovers throughout the world
can find their way once in Algiers to a “Paradise on Earth” and will surely enjoy
the site's attractions as well as marvel at God's various creatures. It is Algeria’s oldest botanical garden and one of the
country's most celebrated landmarks. It is home to thousands of plant and
animal species.
The garden sits on more than 32 hectares of land. It
enjoys a tropical microclimate, which is favourable to the flora and fauna
imported from Africa and North America.
*Sill standing as a perennial witness to both
the Grandeur and Beauty of Algiers the White, is the Botanical Garden of El
Hamma in Dowtown Algiers.
