DNA from a 2,000-year-old burial site in Mongolia has revealed new information about the Xiongnu, a nomadic tribe that once reigned in Central Asia. Researchers in France studied DNA from more than 62 skeletons to reconstruct the history and social organization of a long-forgotten culture. The researchers found that interbreeding between Europeans and Asians occurred much earlier than previously thought. They also found DNA sequences similar to those in present-day Turks, supporting the idea that some of the Turkish people originated in Mongolia. The research also provides glimpses into the Xiongnu culture. Elaborate burials were reserved for the elite members of society, who were often buried with sacrificial animals and humans at the time of burial. And relatives were often buried next to each other. The necropolis, or burial site, was discovered in 1943 by a joint Mongolian-Russian expedition in a region known as the Egyin Gol Valley of Mongolia. Skeletons in the site were well preserved because of the dry, cold climate. The researchers estimated that the site was used from the 3rd century B.C. to the 2nd century A.D. The researchers were able to figure out how various skeletons may have been related by analyzing three different types of DNA. They used mitochondrial DNA, which is inherited only from the mother, Y-chromosome DNA, which is passed from father to son, and autosomal DNA (that is, everything but the X and Y chromosomes), which is inherited from both mother and father. Most scientists had previously thought that people from Asia mixed with Europeans sometime after the 13th century, when Ghengis Khan conquered most of Asia and parts of the Persian Empire. However, Keyser-Tracqui and her coworkers detected DNA sequences from Europeans in the Xiongnu skeletons. Skeletons from the most recent graves also contained DNA sequences similar to those in people from present-day Turkey. This supports other studies indicating that Turkish tribes originated at least in part in Mongolia at the end of the Xiongnu period.

The Sumerian and mongoloid and maybe the dinaric combination must be the reason for the similarity of the genes, I think. However, nobody should ever argue that Turks are not Turks..
This is a random selection of pictures of Turkish members of msn and
this site:http://www.joeberkphotography.com/turkish_people.htm
It's interesting to note that none of them have the mongoloid
characteristics which are high cheekbones and inner eyelids. As we can
clearly see in the pic of the statue you present.
As for the article you've presented you obviously missed the fact that it said:
"supporting the idea that some of the Turkish people originated in Mongolia"
You must have spent hours looking for that pic, why not post one of the whole Fenerbache team???

To the gods we mortals are all ignorant. Those old traditions from our ancestors, the ones we've had as long as time itself, no argument will ever overthrow, in spite of subtleties sharp minds invent.
It
is reckoned that the population of the Moslem Turkish
Minority in Western Thrace is 150.000. According to
the Lausanne documents; the number of Turkish people
in Western Thrace was 129.120 in 1923, which constituted
68 % of the regional population while this number is
150.000 today, which accounts for only 35 % of the regional
population. As far as the Lausanne documents are concerned;
the Minority had 84 % of the land property on the date
on which the Treaty of Lausanne was signed; however,
the minority had only 20 % of the lands.
Greece has implemented a strategy which is aimed at
melting the Moslem Turkish Minority in Western Thrace
through assimilation or by forcing them to migrate.
To this end, Article 19 of the Greek Citizenship Law
was amended. The previous provision of this article
was as follows:
"If a person of non- Greek origin is to depart
from Greece with the intention of not returning, it
can be judged that the said person has lost Greek citizenship.
This provision is also applicable to persons of non-
Greek origin, born and residing abroad . It can be declared
that those who live abroad, who are under age and whose
parents alive have lost his/her/their Greek citizenship,
have also lost their Greek citizenship. Based on the
resolution adopted by the Citizenship Council, the Interior
Minister judges on this subject."
This
article that is used to cancel the citizenship of
the Turkish Minority in Western Thrace differentiates
between "those of Greek origin and those not",
taking into account the "ethnic origins."
With this article, some people were stripped of their
Greek citizenship randomly and without any notice.
People of the same race have thus heard at the border
check-points that they lost their Greek citizenship.
They were not allowed to enter Greece in order to
raise objections the decision. Thus, it is reckoned
that the number of those who lost their Greek citizenship
is 60.000.
On 11 June 1998, the Greek Parliament declared that
it decided to cancel article 19 of the Citizenship
Law. Furthermore, they declared that this new decision
was not applicable to those losing their Greek citizenship,
which ruined the expectations of those of the same
race as us.
The
place which is resided by Turkish people, covers one-third
of the region, 20-30 km in width and which transgresses
Western Thrace from east to west in parallel to the
Bulgarian borderline was declared "forbidden
military zone."
More
than half of the Greek lands including Western Thrace
were declared as the border region with the act dated
1938 and numbered 1366. It was also decided that Greek
citizens wanting to sell or purchase immovables within
this region had to get permission from the concerned
cities to this end.
Sale of immovables between Minority persons or from
those of Greek origin to Minority persons was allowed
for a 4-5-year period. However, deterrent measures
such as keeping those demanding permission waiting
for months were applied.
In spite of the guarantees and rights provided through
the Treaty of Lausanne, Greece has been assimilating
the Turkish minority in Western Thrace since 1923.
First koroglu, I'd like to apologize for posting this loooong one in your topic but some things need to be answered to.
It is honestly sad to see another brainwashed individual but this time a Hellinic citizen posting all this crap.
Dear, Sir, you conveniently told us all about
loosing citizenship, gave us population reports, I also visited your
site. (I'd close it down if I were you) but you conveniently avoid to
tell us what's going on to the Hellines in Constadinoupoli or as you
may call it istanbul.
Based on the same Lausanne documents and Human Rights give us valuable info on what has happened to them:
The Greeks of Turkey
(from the Denying Human Rights and Ethnic Identity series of Human Rights Watch)
"The Greek community in Turkey is dwindling, elderly and frightened.
Its population has declined from about 110,000 at the time of the
signing of the Lausanne Treaty in 1923 to about 2,500 today."
" A Helsinki Watch mission visited Turkey in October 1991 and found
that the government there continues to violate the human rights of the
Greek minority. These acts include harassment by police; restrictions
on free expression; discrimination in education involving teachers,
books and
curriculum; restrictions on religious freedom; limitations on the right
to control charitable institutions; and the denial of ethnic identity."

Of course we must see what lead to the EXTERMINATION of the Hellinic population.
The "Kristallnacht" of 1955
The night of 6th to 7th of
September 1955, a Turkish mob in Istanbul, organized and directed by
state authorities, conducted a vicious pogrom against the Greek
Community of Istanbul. As a result:
Sixteen Greeks died (the 90-years old Fr. Mantas was burned alive), and thirty two were severely wounded.
* At least two hundred Greek women were raped. Hundreds of Greeks were tortured.
* Seventy three churches and twenty three schools were vandalized, burned or destroyed.
* One thousand four houses were looted; 4,348 stores, 110 hotels, 27 pharmacies and 21 factories destroyed.
* The Patriarchal
and other Greek cemeteries were desecrated. The dead bodies of
Patriarchs were unburied and profaned.
* Relics of Saints were burned or thrown to the dogs.
In 1958-1959, a new anti-greek wave
took place. Turkish nationalist students embarked on a campaign of
leaflet distribution outside Greek shops, encouraging the boycott of
Greek businesses.
In 1964, all Greek nationals,
permanent residents of Istanbul (people who were born and lived in
Istanbul but retained the Greek citizenship) were eexpelled from the
country on a two-day notice. Eventually, the Greek community of
Istanbul shrunk from eighty thousand souls in 1955 to only forty eight
thousand in 1965.
In August 1995, the US Senate passed
a special resolution marking the anti-Greek pogrom of September 1955,
calling on the US President to proclaim September 6, 1955, a Day of
Memory for the victims of the pogrom.
Violation of Civil and Minority Rights
The Turkish state, with a
number of secret decrees (1964, 1985, 1986), revoked the right of
ethnic Greeks to trade, buy and inherit properties. In particular, with
the secret decree of 1964, authorities had the right to block the
transfer of property titles for the members of the Greek minority. As a
result, numerous Greeks could not inherit family properties, which were
eventually sold to Turks at very low. As the decree was secret, Greeks
could not even challenge it in courts.
Private property belonging to
ethnic-Greeks and to Greek religious, community and education
foundations has been confiscated. Currently, ethnic-Greeks trying to
reclaim their property, have to go through years of judicial struggle;
most of them are obliged to sell out their estates to Turks for nominal
prices.
Ethnic Greek lawyer faces charges:
Elpida Frangopoulou, an ethnic Greek lawyer in Istanbul was charged
with "insulting the Turkish nation" when she protested after being
discriminated against, while trying to acquire a copy of her
high-school diploma. After two years of judicial struggle she was
convicted to two months imprisonment and was put on probation. Ms.
Frangopoulou is well-known for her continuous struggle to save the vast
wealth of thousands of ethnic Greeks of Istanbul following the 1964
secret Turkish decree which confiscated their properties.
The islands of Imvros and Tenedos:
these two islands of the Aegean Sea, near the Dardanelle straits, had
exclusively Greek population in 1922. With the Treaty of Lausanne, the
islands were given to Turkey and were granted special autonomy status.
Following the establishment of Turkish authorities in September 1923,
however, the local governments were resolved and mayors and local
officials were expelled. Autonomy was eventually revoked in 1927.
Since then, Turkey confiscated all
minority school property in Imvros, the larger of the two islands,
closed down six elementary schools, confiscated thousands of acres of
land used in agriculture, prohibited the export of meat, and
established an open prison in the island. Land appropriations continued
through 1984, when the indigenous Greek population was left with
virtually no agricultural property. Meanwhile, in 1978, Turkey started
distributing these lands to settlers from the mainland.
Inmates of the open prison committed
numerous crimes: in 1973, Stelios Kavalieros was slaughtered and the
whole island was terrorized; in 1975, inmates raped and murdered Ms.
Styliani Zouni in the village of St. Theodoroi; in 1980 they murdered
Efstratios Stylianides and Nikos Ladas. On November 1990, Zaf.
Delikonstantes was slaughtered. No murderer was ever punished.
Persecution and Discrimination in Higher Education
(I'm sure you had EVERY right to education in Hellas)
Since 1936, Turkey has imposed the use of the Turkish language in most
courses taught in Greek minority schools, prohibiting the teaching of
Greek history and geography. Following a decree of 1964, the Turkish
state prohibits the entrance of Greek-Orthodox clerics into Greek
minority schools and the celebration of Christmas and Easter; morning
prayer in schools is forbidden. Since September 1964, with the Law
8459, Greek students are not allowed to speak Greek during class
breaks. In 1971, Greek pupils are enforced to start and end their
classes saying : "I am happy to be a Turk." In the 60's, several Greek
schools were closed down by the state and their property was
confiscated. Since the '70s, the Turkish state has imposed Turkish
directors to the schools of the Greek community, who raise all kinds of
obstacles in the daily educational work.
April 1994: Unidentified persons tossed burning torches into the yard
of the Greek Grand National Academy, in Phanar, Istanbul. The fire was
extinguished immediately with Fire Brigade assistance.
September 1994: more than one hundred Greek high-school graduates in
Istanbul were not allowed to enroll to Turkish Universities. The pupils
had succeeded in the nation-wide entrance exams. The pretext for this
discriminatory decision was that they had not attended the course of
physical education during the previous school-year. It was because of
the Turkish authorities, however, that this course was not taught:
Turkey did not allow the entrance of teachers from Greece to teach in
Greek minority schools, thus violating the Lausanne Treaty.
Anyway, I think you get the point.
I suggest you thank God (whoever he may be) that you live in a
DEMOCRATIC country that allows you to express your opinion openly,
educate yourself, practice your own religious beliefs, political rights
(please name JUST ONE Hellinic politician in Turkey, while the muslim
minority of Hellas has THREE in Parliament)...........
Finally "Niko", try to spend your time on something more constructive
instead of spreading propaganda about the country you live in. Probably
if you showed you trully "love it", she would trully love you back in
return
If you'd like to continue this, open a new topic. I don't think the
Muslim minority of Hellas has anything to do with Mongoloid genes,
unless you have some genetic analysys up your sleeve.

First.... Some of the Turks show the same identity like the 2000 years old huns. THIS IS PRETTY MUCH!!
And yes! All this fotos (maybe) show Turanid admixture... You should not forget that Dinaroids, Armenoids, Iranoids are subraces, next close to the Turanoid... So what is the metter??
I really can not understand why you Greeks become so nervous...
And why dont you understand the difference between Turanid and mongoloid???
Please accept - WE ARE TURKS, AND YOU ARE NOT -

I really don't get it either. Every Greek or Armenian I have ever come across has tried to prove that Turks of Turkey and Turks of other regions are not the same. Either they don't understand what we are saying or they do but just don't want to admit it. I don't blame them for not wanting to admit it, Turks of Turkey are powerful enough by themselves. They know if we're seen as one with an even larger group of Turks spread out from Siberia to the borders of Europe that we'd be even more powerful. Just look at history, when we unite, who can stop us? They want to keep us seperated and not looking afetr one another, not just the Greeks and Armenians, but a lot of the world.

Feramez, dont mess with him, he will be banned anyway, just ignore him...
The Huns were a union of some nomadic nations of central and east central asia, Siberia, western steppes and even northern Black sea region under a Turkic rule. They were ehnically very mixed that today, in some ancient graves in CA, both caucasoid blonde and mongoloid skeletons are found togetherly burried.
So to classify the nomadic nations according to their ethnicity isnt possible. And their origins arent very clear. We cant even say that they are originally Mongoloids. Maybe they mixed with Mongoloid race sometime, who knows? Even the creation myths of ancient Turkic people are based on a common symbolized father having children from lots of different mothers, etc. So even they werent classifying themselves according to how they look, but according to their common ancestry of common father. This is why, we have blonde, very dark skinned, or Mongoloid Turkic people all over the world. Even the Native Americans are said to be Turkic. And they were a totally different race than any of these I mentioned.
So it doesnt matter how we look or where we live, or even which alphabet we use. We are all Turks from a common ancestry, no matter if we dont look like each other. And our origins cannot be decided as Mongoloid, caucasoid, american native steriotype etc.
I think this topic isnt much logical because it would be ignorancy to define a common look for all the Hunnic people and claim that all of them looked the same way with todays Turks of anatolia. This is rediculous and every single Anatolian Turk who dares to look at the mirror at once may see that they arent Mongoloids, but maybe they belong to a subrace of Turanoid. This is much more sense and we dont need to lie ourselves of having total Mongoloid features. We are all Turks and such topics hurt our prides in these forums. We dont need to prove anything to world...

Nervous???
Never was and most probably never will be, at least not when I read
this kind of stuff. I was just trying to show you that you are a
mixture of people/races. If you do any simple research you'll find :
"4) Turks ( original
Mongoloids with minor Persian influence ) numbered several million (
2-3 ) while the Byzantine ( mainly Greeks ) population of Anatolia
numbered during the time of Justinian empire ~ 10m. That would make the
Byzantine population in Anatolia in the next 3 or so centuries after
Justinian ( ~10cen. was when Seljuks penetrated Anatolia ) at liest 10m
up to 15m ( likely say 13m ).Byzantines outnumbered Turks 4-1.
Turanid
( mixed Mongol Turks with Meditterenian autohronius people ) population
today in Turkey doesnt exceed 20-25% of Total . Greek racial elemet is
~ 1/2 of Turkey ( Coastal and Western Regions ) while Iranian (
Primarily Kurds ) is 1/4 of the total population."
Turkey=35%
Dinaricized Mediterraneans ( Greek colonists), 20% Mediterraneans (
Aegean coast, greek colonists), 25% Irano-Afghans ( eastern Turkey,
Kurds ), 20% Turanids ( original semi-oriental Turkics, inhabits
continental parts of central Anatolia one of them being region around
Konya ) = 35% D.M. / 25% I.A. / 20% Med. / 20% T.
"It would thus appear that the Turkish element is a minority one in the
composition of the Anatolians, but it is by no means negligible."
Source:
http://dienekes.blogspot.com/2005/02/how-turkish-are-anato lians.html
Now add the FACT that only 20% of the population are of the Turanid
race and that there are at least 15.000.000.000 Kurds to the
immigration policy:
As Kemal Kirisci noted in his Migration Information survey, "Turkey: A Transformation from Emigration to Immigration", Turkey has a history of receiving immigrants:
"What is less well known is that Turkey has long been a
country of immigration and asylum. From 1923 to 1997, more than 1.6
million people immigrated to Turkey, mostly from Balkan countries.
During the Cold War, thousands of asylum seekers fled to Turkey from
Communist states in Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union. The
overwhelming majority were recognized as refugees, and were resettled
to third countries such as Canada and the United States by the United
Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). In the late 1980s, this
pattern began to change as increasing numbers of asylum seekers began
to arrive from Iran and Iraq, as well as other developing nations.
Turkey also experienced a mass influx of almost half a million mostly
Kurdish refugees from Iraq in 1988 and 1991, as well as mass influxes
of Albanians, Bosnian Muslims, Pomaks (Bulgarian-speaking Muslims), and
Turks in 1989, 1992-1995, and 1999."
Where did I say that I am a Turk or have any kind of demand to be called one???

To the gods we mortals are all ignorant. Those old traditions from our ancestors, the ones we've had as long as time itself, no argument will ever overthrow, in spite of subtleties sharp minds invent.
I dont say the Native Americans were Turkic originated because I believe in any Sun Language theory. It is scientifically proven that the native Americans immigrated to Northern America from southwestern Siberia, northwest of Altai mountains. Their language is proven to be Ural-Altaic and very similar to ancient Turkic. Their tents, beliefs (shamanism), culture and easy adoption to horse riding are very similar to the Turkic civilization.
If you arent enlightened enough about history, check these sites:
Nervous??? Never was and most probably never will be, at least not when I read this kind of stuff. I was just trying to show you that you are a mixture of people/races. If you do any simple research you'll find :
Turks arent pure Mongoloids, and werent. To claim a definite ethnicity or race to Turks would be stupidity. Because Turks walked the erth, and being a Turk isnt considered with your look, but with your common ancestry. But the original Turkic nation who immigrated to Anatolia from western steppes were definately Turanoids.
Of course, a big percentage of the current Anatolian Turkish population is mixed in different amounts with different ethnicities. TO figure this out isnt that hard. Anatolia had an enormous genepool, since the ancient times. It was consisted of a majority of ancient Indo-European and some ancient non-Indo European (Ex: Hattis, Urartu etc.) genes. And when the Romans conquered Anatolia, a minor Roman population's (but mostly the eastern immigrants from Roman Empire) genes were also added to this gene pool. Then, the Byzanthines inheriyed those lands from the Romans, with their minor Greek population.
Anatolia was being ruled by Greeks until the Seljuk Turks became to conquer it. Because Anatolia was being ruled by a Roman/Greek empire, the original non-Greek antolian population were largely Greekified and they became to use Greek as a common language. Centuries of assimilation were only linguistically and religious, but the ethnicity of Anatolia was still the same with some minor Greek/Roman genes entering the only western Anatolian/Aegean, and Pontus population.
The Turkic people of Pecheneks, Kipchaks and Oguz have immmigrated to Anatolia after the collapse of Gktrk Empire. These tribes were mainly living in Transoxania and Caspian steppes before entering to Byzanthine Empire's authority in 9th century with mass immigrations. They mainly settled in the western Black sea region and central Anatolia. And their genes were also added to Anatolian population.
After the 10th century, the Seljuks gained a huge power and became an empire whose borders reached from Eastern Anatolia to todays Kyrgizistan, Central Asia. Most of the Turkic population of central Asia and western steppes were immigrating to Seljuk lands and placed in the far borders of the Empire. Especially Turkomans were occupyinhg a huge population of the empire and their population overgrowt have made Tughrul and Chagri Beghs to search for a new homeland to settle this excessive and massive population. And Anatolia became the most suitable decision after the declining period of the Eastern Roman Empire began with the Battle of Manzikert.
Anatolia was becoming the new homeland for the next generations of Turanoid Turkic population. Especially Turkmens, who were the ruling class of the Seljuks, were populating anatolia with their mass immigrations for the following centuries. The Anatolian population during the latest Byzanthine period was reaching to a number of eight millions, while the new Turkic immigrants had a population of 4-5 milliions.
Later, with the collapse of the Seljuk Empire, after the beghliks period in Anatolia, Osman Begh, a Turkmen begh, the son of Ertughrul Begh have gained the power. With his uchbeglik which was gifted by Alaeddin Keykubad, the Anatolian Seljuk Sultan to Ertugrul Gazi, Osman Begh's state have expanded the borders from Eastern Anatolia to Bosnia. And with the Mongolian invasions of Turkestan, massive Turkmen and other Turkic immigrations to Anatolia have reached its highest level. After the Battle of Ankara, in 1402, the massive Turkmen immigrations were on rise again and the Ottomans decided to place this Turkish population to the new conquered lands in the Balknas to provide safety and to be the authority in those lands.
So the Anatolian gene pool, which was consisted of lots of different local and conquerer Anatolian populations have been enriched with a major Turanoid population in central and inner parts of Anatolia after those centuries of mixing btw same religious groups and assimilations. Today, with the minor Balkan genes being mixed to into this gene pool, the Anatolian Turkish population have inherited mostly the Turanoid genes of their ancestors, and definetely some ancient Anatolian genes from the ancient locals. But surely, those ancient locals were not Greeks. Greek rule was a foregn rule in the inner parts of Anatolia and the Greek ethnicity was only major in the Aegean and Thracian regions.
But the mixing of ethnicities in these thousands of years werent all about the Turks. The current Greek population have majorly mixed with the Slavic Balkan population, the Anatolian populations, and especially Turks. Because the Byzanthine empire have expanded in very foreign lands and they mixed with those local populations to gain more control, assimilations and power on those lands. After the hundreds of years regin of Ottoman Empire, with the mass mixings of the Turkmen population who were placed and settled in the specific points of the Balkans and Greece by the Ottomans in the last centuries have been assimilated in the Greek population, but their genes enriched the Greek gene pool enormously. So today, there still exist a big population of originally Turanoid population in anatolia, and the rest of the population, especially in the western and coastal regions of Anatolia have mixed in different amounts.
