Perterra, We had three different Park Rangers, and three differing versions. The 'Native American' view, delivered by a Rangr who started off telling everyone that he had heard some of them describe the Anasazi as 'primitive' (must have had much better ears than mine), and it all went down hill from there. (figuratively and literally) That quickly put all the Japanese and European tourists on the defensive, but one American couldn't help but ask if the Ranger had ever seen Teotihuacan for a comparison. Both White Rangers referred to the Bureau's tip-toeing around the varying versions, but one was more to the point, stating that there was some genetic evidence supporting some claims, and refutung others, as well as the obviously different purposes and shapes of the 'kivas'. One Ranger suggested that the government was quick to accept Creationist views from Native religious groups whereas such would be given short shrift if proferred by non-Native groups such as White Christians who do have written documents to back up their views.

Mexican archeologists believe that the same drought may have sent the people who became the Aztecs south, so the four corners region is could be the possible Aztlan, though they note the physical description that passed from oral history into writing does not match. Note that many responding here failed to take the Aztecs into account as North Americans.
