I keep reading members use the term "fascist or fascism" in contexts that im not familiar with. Whilst im sure this usage can not possibly be an error, i wondered if we could debate the matter? Here are some starters:- George Bush's grandfather, the late US senator Prescott Bush, was a director and shareholder of companies that profited from their involvement with the financial backers of Nazi Germany. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2004/sep/25/usa.secondworldwarThe coup was aimed at toppling President Franklin D Roosevelt. The plotters, who were alleged to involve some of the most famous families in
America, (owners of Heinz, Birds Eye, Goodtea, Maxwell Hse & George Bush’s
Grandfather, Prescott) believed that their country should adopt the policies of
Hitler and Mussolini to beat the great depression. http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/history/document/document_20070723.shtmlIn July 1938, four months after the German annexation of Austria, he (Henry Ford )accepted
the highest medal that Nazi Germany could bestow on a foreigner, the Grand Cross
of the German Eagle. The following month, a senior executive for General Motors,
James Mooney, received a similar medal for his "distinguished service to the
Reich." http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/national/daily/nov98/nazicars30.htmWhilst not all fascists were Nazis, were not all Nazis Fascist? Azita

Oswald Mosely leader of the British Union of Fascist disliked Nazism. Similarly the British Nazis disliked Fascism. Back then Fascism was the ideology of a totalitarian organic state with state ownership and control of everything and absolute control over all forms of liberty. Mostly nowadays Fascist is just casually used to describe anything oppressive.
However when I was younger the British left screamed fascist at anything and anyone that disagreed with them.
A "Do you support the strike" B "no" A "Fascist!"
A "Do you recycle?" B "No" A "Fascist!"
and nowadays the American far right seem to have learnt from the British left and call everything that disagrees with them Fascist.
A "Do you think Muslims should have the same rights as everyone else?" B "yes" A "Fascist"
A "Do you think healthcare should be free?" B "yes" A "Fascist"

"You're either with us or against us in the fight against terror." that sort of thing??? Why would you say that is one reason why so many powerful elements in the USA are so drawn to Fascism? Azita

That's not entirely fair. The left has been reffering to the right as Facists since the Vietnam war, and as a conservative, I have never heard another of my ilk refer to a leftist as a facist. Calling them liberals is insult enough.

Fascism is authoritarian and conservative, but not every military dictatorship is neccessarily fascist. One military regime that was undoubtedly fascist was General Franco's dictatorship in Spain. There was a secret police, concentration camps, death sentences for political opponents, and racism against North Africans

Azita, you cited an eight year old article that talked about books being published that were going to open the public's eyes. Well, eight years have passed, and apparently they have not made their case. Whatever happened to those lawsuits?
Simply put, you have not laid out any case that 'so many powerful elements in the USA are drawn to Fascism.'
Are the people investing in China today investing in Communism?
