England and France at War!
The Associated Press, December 15, 2012
Brussells- Britain declared war on France at 11 o’clock last
night. Delivering the news in the House of Commons, England’s Prime Minister David
Cameron said “We have repeated the request for the French Government to
withdraw their naval blockade of the English Channel and received their answer.”
The Prime Minister continued, “Receiving an unsatisfactory response
from the French Government, Her Majesty The Queen in Council signed the
declaration of war against the Republic of France.
“Owing to the summary rejection by the French Government of
the request made by Her Majesty’s Government for the suspension of the French
blockade of the English Channel, Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Paris has returned
to London and Her Majesty’s Government declared to the French Government that a
state of war exists between the United Kingdom and France as from 11 pm on
December 14th, 2012.
France began a naval block aid last Monday after England
began levying a tax for all merchant traffic through the channel. France responded with the block aide. The
events reflect the down ward spiral in relations of the two countries since the
European debt crisis began in 2008.

Really the point of this 'alternate current events' topic is to discuss a hypothetical conflict between England and France, with the neutrality of all other nations. Who would come out on top? Don't be too bothered with the details of the news article, it is a bit of fun. Think of this debate as a "War Games Exercise. A friend an I were talking about this the other day, and I remembered the alternate history forums here (but it didn't seem appropriate to post current event hypotheticals there.
i think that the Triomphant vessels of FOST, might cause a little worry, still the Royal Navy could try ramming them again...... ;)
But whose side would Germany take? Also what about all the US military stationed in the UK, what would they do? perhaps it would be the Americans that "ran away"
United Kingdom Military Strength Detail by the numbers.

I should've posted this info as well. I'm not sure where/what America and Germany would do at the moment. Recently, a few of us were watching season one of Jericho, in which multiple nuclear warheads destroy about 20 US cities, and America is divided into a succession war between six rival governments. And in light of the recent (badly made) remake of Red Dawn when N. Korea manages the impossible and invade the Pacific North-West, and in light of the alleged end-of-the-world hoopla out there, I and some others were discussing who would come out on top if there was now a kinda free-for-all as governments in a world of crisis try and capture all power they could in a world where the UN, NATO, and the EU are rendered superfluous.
Lets just say America, Germany, Italy, Spain, are otherwise distracted, and this is a straight-up fight between England and France.
The limited consensus is for England then? They seemed to be more evenly matched to me, though England has two Queen Elizabeth II aircraft carriers, both the Queen Elizabeth II and Prince of Wales scheduled to enter service in 2018/2019.France has a slight edge in aircraft and man-power, though. England is ranked #5 world power, with France ranked at #8 world power. With such evenly matched forces, it may be a question of strategy and early victories.
According to those figures, if each country's submarines cut off supply routes from the middle east. France has 50 days oil supply, Britain has 30 years.
Stupidity got us into this mess, why can't it get us out?
Hummm.. after reflection I think we are underestimating France.
If we look at the numbers,
Air Power:
France: 1757 aircraft, 810 are helos
England: 1663, 606 helos
Navy:
France, 1 carrier, 10 subs, 23 frigats,
England, 1 carrier, 6 destroyers, but only 13 frigats
All France has to do is continue their embargo, a defensive position, whereas England has to be the aggressor here. Also, when we talk about land forces, France has been involved in major world deployments as well, but are not covered as extensively in the English language media. I don't think the French are a spent force, and can go toe to tow in a one on one with England. I would still give England the over all edge, though.
