1. Food (best on the planet, end of.)
2. Languages (love the sound of Melayu-Indonesian)

After that my interests start to get more Indonesia specific, music (gamelan), Colonial architecture (hybrid Dutch-Javanese-Indian Moghul and more), but thats mainly because I know more about Indonesia from Indo friends in Dutch international school as well as chosing it in world history classes, and I know a bit about Thailand. Malaysia/Philippines remain a bit elusive to me.

Don't feel bad if the aggregate numbers in response to a post are not high. quality is what ya want not necessarily quanity. We have a small-medium but active membership here that share a divergence of interests.

As for kimchi...only real men and Cav scouts eat it.Wink

Frog is a delicacy in parts of Europe too, most famously France. I'll give it a miss.
Never tasted durian, have had the pleasure of smelling one, that was more than enough :) Relativly hard to find outside of Malaysia/Indonesia as far as I am aware, you occasional find them in some Tokos in the Netherlands.

Eastern Lao is the eastern part of the country of Lao, the most beautiful scenary on earth. Swe Dagon is a place in Rangoon Burma, SE Asia's finest monument.

I've been trying to cook a proper Phall for ages now but the local chilli peppers are not hot enough. I put 20 fresh chillies and ten dried ones last time I cooked one, it wasn't even 25% as hot as a Vindaloo let alone on the same planet as a Phall. Nothing even 1/10 as hot a Scotch Bonnet in SE Asia.

Add Sappers to that list.Big smile  That's one of my son's favorites.  He even has the local variations from one region to another, nailed down and catagorized.

nick, balut (duck egg) actually tastes as well as sounds delicious; it's how it looks that most people find revolting.

let us know when you've actually tried it Smile
