Some people like to claim a dry white chicken...but that's propo to get ya to try it.

 

 

Most tell ya it tastes like a dry fish.... cod or pollack. Usually it's cooked in a sauce eg. chili.... Or deep fat fired in flour and or cornmeal batter (sometimes with eggs and milk...sometimes not) when that occurs it tastes like a dry fish or shrimp like. But it also depends on what spices are used. There are numerous recipes.

 

Cooked fresh on a stick over a campfire it tastes like snake....no other way to explain it. When mixed with cactus flour it loses it taste to the cacti. Ya can also dry it in the sun and salt it and it becomes a snake jerky.

 

But if ya take one on the 'Res' and there natives are around; be sure and thank Wakan Tanka (Lakota) or whatever appropriate tribal name version (Ta-a'pah is Comanche) (Usen/Ysun is Apache)  is revered (which means do your homework). 

 

 

 

 

 

Then place the rattles on a tree or rock as an offering to the great maker.
