What do you mean exactly? I plan to visit Sparta (Sparti in Greek) in about a month from now.

I thought ancient Sparta(Sparti) is in ruins. It is not on the map. Was sparta sieged, or did bad weather destroyed it?

Sparta exists today as a small/medium sized Greek provincial city. Not much remains from its past, apart for a theatre and the ruins of a temple of Aphrodite (and some other minor ones).

Instead of glorious ruins, what still exists, are the deeds and bravery of it's people.

Sparta was destroyed by the Goths in 396 ce, and its citizens that were unable to escape were sold into slavery. Medieval Mystras, sitting on Taygetos, had quarried the remains for over a thousand years, and this is why there is so little left to investigate. Sparti actually has very little to do with Sparta outside of proximity, having been built in the 1800s.

I don't remember who said it (but some famous ancient guy),  that if you look at Athens today, you'd think Athens was greater than it actually was, but if you look at Sparta, you'd think it's less than what it was.

"Sparta was burnt to the ground"
So, what happened to Sparta? It became a symbol of.... football clubs, like Sparta Praha (Prague).

It lived on in Nazi Germany, Hitler regarded Sparta as a proto-Nazi regime and was inspired by it. Hence my little observation about the Goths running away with all the Spartan women and making little Goths with them.
