According to that research http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1469-1809.1949.tb02431.x/pdf in Great Britain in 1943, like 60.77"/like 1.57 cm/ on 135 pounds for males and 60.22"/1.52 cm/ on 119 pounds on average for the whole population. I heard stories from my grandfather that during the time when Bulgaria was a monarchy, before the end of WW2, the men that would be accepted as professional soldiers only had to be healthy, and their measures didn't matter; but men who became officers, with military education had to be tall, he didn't specify how tall, but he was 168 and this was considered tall. For Bulgaria if I remember right, between the wars the average was about 160 cm on 60 kg for men.

The average height of the terracotta army is very height for this periode. They are as much tall as the men of the ancient germanic tribes. Were only tall men chosen for this army?
