Topic: Your First Car or Truck Posted: 19-Jan-2012 at 11:00 |
Todays Cars lack personality. They just don't have the Mystique that cars from the late 40's to early 70's have.
Usually your first car was the family bus. Some of us were more fortunate and could afford to buy a car of their own choosing.
My first car, not the family bus-
A "sleeper" 1956 Chevy Bel Aire It had a small block V8 265 cubes bored out to 301, and a Corvette 6 pack.
I sold it to buy this, my 2nd car-
1956 Ford Fairlane. This isn't the one I owned, but it's pretty close.
My senior year was 1965, by that time I had a regular gig in a local band and could afford a car more suitable for a Senior
1959 Ford Galaxie. It looked fantastic, great date car, but it couldn't get out of it's own way.

First was 1954 Chevy 4 door 'bomber'. Forest Green. http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/56/1954_Chevrolet_2103_4-Door_Sedan.jpg&imgrefurl=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:1954_Chevrolet_2103_4-Door_Sedan.jpg&h=460&w=800&sz=44&tbnid=sLGq7sF75j48GM:&tbnh=76&tbnw=132&prev=/search%3Fq%3D1954%2Bchevy%2B4%2Bdoor%26tbm%3Disch%26tbo%3Du&zoom=1&q=1954+chevy+4+door&docid=RYuzoCBJM8_krM&sa=X&ei=dP0YT52zFOaC2wXN-dCgCA&ved=0CDQQ9QEwAA&dur=187 Lately I drive either a '98' BMW 750IL Silver (which I got dirt cheap and cherry from the sole owner two years ago)...or I drive a (rebuilt transmission) '76' K5 Cheyenne Blazer, Red and White. I have not bought a new car since 1991 and do not intend to. As I enjoy getting olders and fixing them. The Suv has gotten the lions share of work recently. Not only because of my occassional business but the off roading I frequently do; when camping, BPing or surveying and investigating old Forts and battle sites.... various res's and the all points between the Llano and whore houses in Elko. Life is hell but I fight on anyway.

Sadly, we don't have many cars like that in the UK. I learned to drive in two cars belonging to my parents: an ancient Volvo 440 and a Peugeot 106 which i could hardly fit inside. After passing my test i had a Ford Fiesta but gave it to my brother and bought a PT Cruiser as the manual transmission was tiring when driving long distances

I rented a PT Cruiser once. It's the only car that I've ever seen that rocks with the motion of the windshield wipers.

Renault Clio, still got it. Not much of a car person. The Ideal car is small, cheap, and French or Japanese. Hmm could work with women too

Here's a photo of my car. Inside it has Ed Hardy mats and seat covers, plus a shrunken head hanging from the rear-view mirror. They might be bigger and slower than Japanese or French imports, but the great thing about American (and German) cars is they're reliable and built to last

I didn't own this car, it's what I rented when I was in Bamberg in 02 and again in 03. I had never heard of the car until then. Great mileage, but too much plastic. I was wondering how popular the cars actually are in the UK and Europe. They don't comply with US safety standards so they aren't available here.
Seat Toledo-

My first instructor drove a Ford Escort. During my lessons the dirty old man spent the whole time eyeing up women
