This topic is dedicated to the planes of the Cold War and later, from their origins as Nazi superweapons to their ubiquity in the air forces of all modern nations. Above is a picture of the first fighter-jet: the German Messerschmitt 262 introduced in 1944

air fighters from Anatolia

the first black military pilot: Ahmet Ali Çelikten http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ahmet_Ali_Çelikten

the first woman millitary pilot: Sabiha Gökçen http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sabiha_Gökçen

however Ahmet Ali wasn't a jet pilot and I am not sure about Sabiha Gökçen but she died in 2001 so maybe she used a jet.

Fine Airmen.. both of them.
Sabiha was honored by the USAF as outstanding pilot and contributor to aviation.

I could choose many but I'll stick with a legend of legends...Chuck Yaeger.

As for Jets my favorite three remain:

I've always liked the Thunderbolt. A lot of them have teeth painted on the nose similar to WW2 fighters

Where's Greywolf? During his long career he must have seen firsthand a lot of interesting planes from the WWII era Mustangs to the Sabres, Banshees, Phantoms, Intruders, Skyhawks, Corsairs, and Fighting Falcons in use during the Cold War

The MiG-15 was the most widely-produced Russian jet-fighter, with over 12000 built. It was powered by a reverse-engineered Rolls Royce engine acquired from the British Labour government in 1947. It proved itself in the Korean War: the Yalu River on the Chinese border was known as "Mig Alley" and was the site of many dogfights

Thanks Centrix. Lichtenstein's famous painting WHAAM! depicts one of these dogfights. A Starfire (or possibly a Mustang) destroys what is obviously a MiG with its air-to-air missiles

The McDonnell Phantom 2 entered service with the USN in 1960. It set 15 World Speed Records and saw action as a bomber in Vietnam. These 50-year-old planes are still used by the Turkish air force: a testament to American engineering and design

I'm suprised ya have not mentioned the F15. Perhaps the most 'over glamorized fighter' contribution to the CW in USAF history.Wink

Maybe you can tell us more Centrix? When did the F-15 enter service and which wars was it used in?
