I am coming from the thread about Mao and the Red book, because I vaguely know the position of the female in China is different in the east than in west. I think communism verses unrestricted capitalism is also a male verses female conflict. It is just something I hope others are willing to look into and discuss. Do you take what we want with military force, or wait for an offer that is acceptable?

Owl woman, personal I believe we are living matriarchy if DNA origin of children are disputed.Patriarchy basis were established under male's fear about right to raise his own children.I have restarted similar post about homosexuality!Humans rights and human basic right to reproduce himself look pro and contra as it seemed. But here is hidden more dangerous question:Forcing Darwin's "Strongest survive and multiply", where male use social support structures and modern medicine,do not result with best DNA choice!I am not female hater but one that protest again loosing valuable DNA variations and survival of human race out of insect society!

I think the matriarchy and patriarchy patterns, are more about mating choices and social status, than children. The mating patterns originate in different environments. However, once the mating pattern is set, the male dominate groups, over power the female dominate pattern. So we have Mother Goddess, matriarchy groups in the fertile crescent, where women could survive easily without males, by working together. In this situation females will dominate, the most desirable male is a cooperative, considerate male who is good with the children, and possibly has a good singing voice or some other special skill benefacial to group. These matriarchies were invaded by patriarchy groups from a region lacking in good farming conditions, and where life is dependent on hunting, and therefore, more dependent on male strength and aggression. When survival depends on male strength and aggression, the females will choose mates with these traits. Male domination is kind of like a virus, because once infected, always infected. The female now needs the strong and aggressive male for her protection and social status.
Here is a good explanation of different mating patterns and possible social organizations of primates and humans.
