No really.  That is mostly just so much Enlightenment Era propaganda.  For all the talk of the feared and dreaded Spanish Inquisition, that body produced only about 1000 executions in the course of 200 years. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_Inquisition) That's an average of five executions per year -- hardly the reign of terror that Protestants made it out to be.
