Well it depends on where you were in the Islamic Empire and when. Piracy was only a common thing in North Africa and only in the last centuries of the Islamic Empire. We hear of people like Barbarossa, but then he was Cypriot and not North African. According to Islam, Slaves were to be treated like equals. The master needed to make sure that his slave ate what he ate and wore what he wore. Of course, we can't assume that everyone followed the scriptures piously.

I think that you can also commend the Byzantines for their little vanguard of slaves, etc.? Just what is the difference between those lads from England, France, Sweden, Danmark, etc., and those of the Egyptians? Glory they both had.
