   I read that the native American name for the American bison is "pemikan" (peh-mee-kan).  There are other names I'm considering for local species, such as the black crappie (speckled perch, specks, calico bass, etc).

well, in Arabic
 Cat Is "keet'a"
 dog is  "Kalb"
 Lion is "Asad, Hidar, Dergham, Ghadanfar and many others"
 Wolf is "the'b, diap, Aoes"
 Bear "Do'b"
 fox '"tha'lab"
 bigs are "khenzier(singular)", snake is "Tho'ban, Haiah" and many other, rat is "Gorath" and mice are called in singular "Far",
 birds , well bird is "Ta'ir " to begin with, Eagle is "nesr" Hawk is "Saqr" and many other names, Vultures Are "Hedaiyah, Eka'ab"
 fish is "samak, singular samakah" sharks are "samak al kersh, or simply Kersh"
 well , for fantasy cratures the phoenix Is "Anka'ah" dragon is "Tenen".....
