图片真漂亮.
如果不是后来的清政府闭关锁国的话.中国应该能各西方国家同步进入资本主义社会.

I'd like to find out more about this odd-looking shield gun. I imagine it's some sort of volley gun similar to the one made by Nock

How old is this pepperbox? I always thought it was a European invention

unless the Chinese possessed fused exploding rounds in the Ming period, that "trench mortar" is more likely the Chinese version of a similar European weapon that was used as the light machinegun of its day. OK, the English term machinegun doesn't fit, so it helps to think of the mitrailleur, i.e., a weapon that puts out a lot of shrapnel (mitraille). Of course, fireworks prove that the Chinese had the technology, but I'm not sure they used it in metal rounds.

Also, the Koreans also used a rocket arrow volley weapon during the Imjin wars.

The photo give me images of Ming General Yuan Chonghuan holding off Mongol and Manchu armies at bay for many decades, mainly using firearms to maul them down.  It later took the treachery of Wu Sangui willingly opening the gates of northern wall to allow Manchus to enter without much of a fight.
