Esfandiar Rahim Mashaie, Vice President and Head of Cultural Heritage and Tourism Organization, said something that it is said today he deserves to be killed for it!

'Iran is friends with Israeli people'

TEHRAN (AFP) — Iran is "friends with the Israeli people", a deputy of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said, in stark contrast to Tehran's usual verbal assaults against the Jewish state, local media reported on Sunday.
Esfandiar Rahim Mashaie, vice president in charge of tourism and one of Ahmadinejad's closest confidants, also described the people of Iran's arch-enemy the United States as "one of the best nations in the world".

"Today, Iran is friends with the American and Israeli people. No nation in the world is our enemy, this is an honour," Rahim Mashaie said, according to the Fars news agency and Etemad newspaper.

Tehran, 12 August (AKI) - A volunteer paramilitary force known as the 'Basij' will protest in Iran on Wednesday demanding the removal of a government official who has said that Iranians are the "friends" of Israelis and Americans.

Student groups close to the government are asking for the immediate dismissal of Esfandiar Rahim Mashaie, vice-president of tourism, who in the past month has repeatedly mentioned Israelis and Americans as friends of Iranians.

On Tuesday, he once again repeated the controversial statements, adding that he did not want to modify anything that he said.

"I am proud about what I said and I am willing to repeat a thousand more times that we are friends of all the people in the world, including Americans and Israelis," said Mashaie.

not really - it's all hyped up crap.  he wouldn't have said it if he thought anything would happen to him - he is in a position to know, after all.  And Iran's official tirades are always targeting the "Zionist Regime" rather than the Israeli people.

It is said when some days ago, a mullah praised Iranian swimmer Mohammad Alirezaei (the only Iranian swimmer in Olympics) for refusing to a swim in a pool that the Israeli swimmer Tom Be’eri (lane seven) could make its water najis (unclean/impure),

Iran has been yelling a screaming against the "zionist regime" for 30 years and hardly a shot was fired against it. during the Israeli invasion in Lebanon, Iranian backed organization joined the Israelis in murdering Palestinians in what was known as the "war of the camps". When Palestinian organizations wanted to return to the border and continue their operations against Israel the hizb launched a war against them to stop them from attacking Israel on the pre-text that the south was Lebanese territory and only Lebanese are allowed to fight. They used Israeli support in their war against Iraq and that support was vital as a major general in the Iraqi army said after the war. Its nukes are more directed towards the gulf states, and against the population of Iran itself, than towards Israel and the recent speech the the deputy FM to students in Mashhad about the "illegetimacy" of ruling dynasties in the gulf ad the need to topple them, this is what I was told not an invention.

Israel was wanting to see both sides destroyed as much as possible.  And this "aid" you speak of was as intermediary from America (Iran-Contra) and Israel sold this "aid" with extortionate commission and did it at America's behest.

That is the danger of official tirades.  The Israelis must be excused for not recognizing the fine distinction between Zionists and themselves.  Threats are threats.

What I have often found most puzzling about this Iranian position in re Israel, is that it seems, from a strategic point of view, that Iran would recognize in Israel a natural ally against Sunni Arabs instead of making an enemy out of her.

It is all part of mullah madness.

Or as some Sunni Arabs and others seem to think, an unholy alliance.  Mullahs and Israel are the undisputed beneficiaries of the recent chaos in the ME.   Though I prefer to believe that Iran was most definitely in the sights of the Zionists/Americans but that the strategic overstrecth in the conquest of Afghanistan and Iraq was unforeseen by the masterminds and thus inhibited the assault on Iran to propaganda and economic measures.

Interestingly with the Russian threat looming it would seem that America's interest may lie in a strong Iran and the current policy has been based on the assumption of Russia being a has-been military-economic power.  If the current US vision of the ME is relaised and Russia continues as it is then it will be to the latter's advantage.  I believe America needs a strong Iran and Turkey to contain Russia in the region as it did before.  It will be interesting to see how America's policy in the ME develops as a result of aggressive Russian resurgence.
