I'm taking an interest into the Russo-Japanese conflicts but am having difficulties finding quality information on the Battle of Mukden and thought the forum could help. I understand the Japanese Army had a decent numerical advantage and then just double enveloped the Russians. However:

How did the Russian commander allow this to happen?

Why didn't the Russians just withdraw when they realized the threat?

How many casualties did each side suffer?

Are there any good books on this war?

Like great battles? How about when they're animated for easy viewing?
