as far as I know that's an Iranian (Sassanians?) castle, but it was half destroyed and French built it up again centuries ago. I went there, and the difference between the old part and the French one was an uneven line of bricks, the difference was the type of bricks they used, and of course French's were newer!

That is probably the most famous foreign monument in Germany - apart from the Berlin Wall of which there are only scattered remnants.

The GDR was never an own nation - their feeble attempt at becoming one at the end of the seventies (I believe) failed because of public reluctance to have "Nationalitt: DDR" written in their I.D.s

 Look like a french castle to me.  As far as I know the castle was constructed by french archeologists by salvaging the material of an old ruin.
