Did the Nazi's have a 'national anthem'?
and if so does anyone know the lyrics? (if possible an english translation would be good) Also is there any place I could download it or atleast listen to it online?

The national anthem wasn't changed by the Nazis. It was still the Deutschlandlied, but with all three parts and not as today with only the 3rd one. But often the Horst-Wessel-Lied was played with the Deutschland-Lied together. This is:" Rise the flag, close the rows, SA is marching, with couraging steps......". I am sure you'll find alot of this rubbish in the internet.

The melody for this was written by Josef Haydn as a Habsburg "salute" as I recall. The lyrics were from one of the Young Germany poets or writers in the revolutionary atmosphere of the 1840s.
More Nazi perversion of German culture.

Shame they changed it to the 3rd Stanza not the second. I take it that one was included for Bavarians.
Dead Kennedy's do a better version though than Germany.

Yes, there was a Nazi "anthem" called the Horst Wessel song.
Horst Wessel Lied
Translation
Flag high, ranks closed, The S.A. marches with silent solid steps. Comrades shot by the red front and reaction march in spirit with us in our ranks.
The street free for the brown battalions, The street free for the Storm Troopers. Millions, full of hope, look up at the swastika; The day breaks for freedom and for bread.
For the last time the call will now be blown; For the struggle now we all stand ready. Soon will fly Hitler-flags over every street; Slavery will last only a short time longer.
Flag high, ranks closed, The S.A. marches with silent solid steps. Comrades shot by the red front and reaction march in spirit with us in our ranks.

sorry about that Panther. I just couldn't resist. The words don't make much sense, the soldiers could have done much better than march to songs about dead poofs or reds under the beds, but it's all history now. Another interesting snippet is how everywhere the German soldiers went they sang to brass bands that went with them making them one of the most musical armies of all times. Not all the songs were good, but although mostly mundane they had a military quality about them that went along with with the tramp of jackboots.

Just thinking of a British marching song mentioned in The Great Escape. The German guard talked about how offensive it was to hear and forbade the prisoners from whistling the march that goes to the tune of Colonel Bogey.
Hitler has only one brass ball
Goring has two but very small
Himmler, has something similar
But poor old Goebbals
Has no balls at all!
