Hey, you buzzing little blood sucker! Just why did you guys open this thread up again? Laugh!

I would just like to ask Conrad this question; Conrad! May I call you Bud? chuckle!

But, re the subject matter, it seems anyone who might well have been around Stalin long enough to assemble these stories could not really exist long enough to tell anyone! It would even seem that one would be afraid to tell anyone, or especially write any of it down! Witness the front row sneeze story! Laugh!

I got a real story.
 
Stalin was a great fan of cinema. He was always watching the new movies in his private cinema in Cremlin before they were allowed to get to soviet cinemas. He had also his favourite soviet actress and he often invited her to the parties on Cremlin castle. Once on the party, he came to her and her husband and asked if her husband is good for her. She answered that somtimes is good and sometimes is bad. Stalin said to her husband: "be good for her or ill order to execute you".
 
Another time there was a movie in which an actor was playing Stalin.  After watching the movie Stalin said to the actor: "Id wish to be such Stalin as you have played"

"Gesundheit" is not an English word either, but it is
commonly used in the US.
 
The Russian Empire/USSR had a significant German
population for 100s of years prior to Stalin's time,
so it is likely many German words entered Russian
usage, perhaps including "Geshundheit".

 A real anecdote took place during the great purges. At night Stalin and his comrades were watching the skies and started to dispute about locations of certain stars. So Stalin ordered checka to sent some astronomers to clear the dispute. The checka black limos arrived at first astronomer's house, terrified astronomer jumped out of the window because he feared arrest. Second got a heart attack meeting checists and died. Only third was taken to Stalin when he no longer cared about stars.

A another joke by Stalin was against Khrushchev, they both stayed at late evening at Stalins mansion. Khrushchev told that is getting late and wanted drive home. Stalin said "you will stay"  Khrushchev replied "but my wife will be worried!" Than Stalin looked at him with his dark  eyes and Khrushchev agreed. At morning Khrushchev met Stalin, who was drinking tea, he said good morning, but Stalin said- "Who are you? Do I know you? How did you get in here? Leave now!" Shocked and embarrassed Khrushchev left the house and head for his car. Then he saw a officer running to him. He thought that he would be arrested and this is it. But officer said "Comrade Khrushchev where you been, Comrade Stalin has looked all around for you!"When he came back to Stalin he said "My friend where you been! Don't make such jokes again!".

A Georgian delegation comes for a jobs visit to Stalin.They come, they talk to Stalin, and then they go, heading off down the Kremlin's corridors. Stalin starts looking for his pipe. He can't find it. He calls in Beria, the dreaded head of his secret police.
"Go after the delegation, and find out which one took my pipe," he says.
Beria scuttles off down the corridor.
Five minutes later Stalin finds his pipe under a pile of papers. He calls Beria:
"Look, I've found my pipe."
"It's too late," Beria says, "half the delegation admitted they took your pipe, and the other half died during questioning"

A Crimean Tatar story:
-Crimean Tatars were expelled to Siberia in 1944-
Stalin wanted us to leave our religion. I was 13 years old. I went to school, then my teacher asked me what my religion was. I said that I was Muslim. He became angry. He wanted me to close my eyes, and then wanted me to want an apple from God. I said "Allah, give me an apple." But there was no apple. After that, he said me that your God hadn't given you an apple, maybe Stalin would give. He wanted me to close my eyes again. I did. Then he wanted me to want an apple from Stalin. I said "Stalin, give me an apple!" I opened my eyes and there was an apple in my hand. My teacher asked me if I had seen Stalin was greater than Allah. I answered " No, Allah has more important things to give me an apple. There are poorer, more miserable people than me on the world. "
Since that day, I've never been able to go to school.

I know, but I never said they were true. In fact, I cautioned against believing them. The bit about Stalin raising his arm up at those surrounding him on his deathbed is something I have read in a bography of the man and does seem believable.

I didn't think so either. Wasn't it JFK who made the moon a priority? And he didn't become president until 1961, and Stalin died in 1953. In fact, now that I look it up, NASA wasn't formed until 1958...Tongue 
 
There probably was a lot of 'what ifs' about space during Stalin's time though.

Several years ago we had a Russian member on AE whose uncle owned a pair of Stalins trousers. When his uncle was a kid Stalin visited his village. He was so nervous that he wet his trousers, and when Stalin saw that he gave him a pair of his own.

BTW everyone, I just proved the last story about the eye opening after death wrong, but the Wikipedia does have an article on him which mentions his death. His daughter Svetlana is quoted on how Stalin "cast a glance over everyone" and "lifted his hand" as if he was "bringing down a curse upon all of us." This all took place shortly before he died, not after death.Dead


I have read this before in scholarly texts also. Though I have never read of the eyes opening after death. And seriously, what sort of idiot would cheer the death of Stalin when in a room next to his corpse and surrounded by his family and supporters?

At the event of Stalin being pronounced dead, someone in the room cheered 'Alas, the evil dictator is dead!', at which Stalin suddenly opened his eyes.

Share your own stories about Stalin if you like. Very interesting character, he seems to be...Tongue
 
About the two last stories i cant say if they are truth or not, but the first is an old joke that i know from a version using Hitler and Jews.
