Here's a list of great athletes and teams that made you admire what they often did when in their prime. They owned an aspect of the game that sent shivers into any opponent or fan.

- Bobby Orr taking the puck full length of the ice.
- The flying frenchmen on a power play.
- The Red Wings Russian five owning the puck.
Basketball
- Jordan winding up for a jumper.
- Majic making a no look pass.
- Shak dunking. Kaplunk!
Soccer
- ZZ running around the middle in high gear
- Germany's methodical defense
- Pele with the ball. Wonderful yet frightening
American Pro Football
- Joe Montana in the playoffs. Forgetaboutit!
- The Steel Curtain
- Zsonka and Kick
- Barry Sanders juking the pants off of the defense
Other sports
- Ali dancing. Jabbing all over a face.
- Tyson! enough said.
- McEnroe attacking the net. Bjorn and Jimmy had no answer.
- Johnny Bench picking off another base stealer
- Tiger Woods in a zone

You should add "Kobe with the ball". He is the only player in this era that can take over a game by himself. Also, when its a clutch situation, EVERYONE in the building knows the ball is going to Kobe, but no one can stop him!

No doubt! Kobe has been a one man wrecking crew of late. That hasn't happened with regularity since Wilt the Stilt Chamberlain. Plus I'd add Larry Bird. 4'th quarter, the guy was on fire.

Carl Lewis should also be added to that list, considering he may have been the most illustrius athlete in the history of the Olympics, even going out on top.

I'm surprised I didn't mention a bunch of others too. I'm counting on you guys to fill in the missing pieces. Sosa, McQwire, Bonds all had their years and bonds surpassed them all as top dog. I have a funny feeling that a big 'ol asterisk would fit nicely along those names.
More baseball:
Derek Jeter
Babe Ruth
Hank Aaron
Frank Robinson
Some football:
Gayle Sayers
Dick Butkus
Fred Biletnikoff
Jim Brown
Deion Sanders

Without Pippen the Bulls hadn't dominated the nineties.
And you forgot Lary Bird.

Nice to see billiards mentioned here!
I would like to make a few more suggestions (billiards related). 8-Ball - Efren Reyes, Mike Segal, Rodney Morris.
Rotation - Reyes again.
One Pocket - Efren Reyes. No one thats alive can touch him in while playing this game.
Straight Pool (14.1) - Mosconi, before he died, was a master of this game. Thorsten Hohmann is probably the best now, along with Oliver Ortmann and John Schmidt.
10 Ball - Shane Van Boening (world champion) and Dennis Orcollo.
9-Ball. Johnny Archer, Earl Strickland (when he can control himself) Efren Reyes, Bustamante, Shane Van Boening (rising star) Mika Immomen, Dennis O, Yang (the money king) Luther Lassiter, the list just keeps going.
As far as womens competition is concerned, Allison Fisher is a monster. Kelly Fisher too, and the new rising star Ga Young Kim as mentioned all are playing top level pool.

I'm surprised no one mentionned Ty Cobb: with a lifetime batting average of .367, 54 steals of home plate and his habits of spiking fielders or packing a gun almost at all times, I can't think of anyone as fearsome.
As for my favorite sport, boxing, I can certainly name a few from forgotten eras:
Stanley Ketchel - One of the most brutal punchers in the history of the sport, he was middleweight champion from 1908 to his death in 1910 at age 24. Of his 52 career wins, 49 came via the short route.
Sam Langford - He never got a shot at any world title, partly because of his race, but mostly because he was the best puncher in the game througout the 1910's. Although a middleweight in size, he flattened most heavyweights who dared step into the ring with him, sometimes 40 or 50 pounds heavier.
Jack Dempsey - Heavyweight champ for most of the 20's, he was one of the most brutal brawlers ever to hold the title. Tough as nails and came out like a whirlwind : 26 of his 51 KOs came in Round 1.
Joe Louis - 25 defenses of the heavyweight title, 21 by knockout : he was in a class of his own.
Henry Armstrong - At a time when boxing had only eight weight classes, Armstrong ruled over three SIMULTANEOUSLY in 1938 : featherweight, lightweight and welterweight.

If you really mean feared - i.e. most frightening - then Jonah Lomu at speed has to have it over everyone.
262 lbs (119 Kg) on a 6 ft 5 (1.96m) frame coming at you at 14 mph (22 kph) and you're supposed to STOP him?

SEKO, I thought you were a Hockey fan, how could you not mention Patrick Roy! The best goalie in history at the moment, until Martin Broduer finishes his career, which is another player you didn't mention!
There's also Mark Messier known as the best Captain in Sports History, his nickname being The Captain. Very versatile, and was always willing to drop his gloves.
Maurice "The Rocket" Richard- A riot was caused because of a suspension given to him. He also carried a opposing player who latched on his back, managed to keep skating and scored a goal. He is regarded as a legend, and even has been honored with a trophy in his name awarded to the player that was the leading goal scorer in the NHL.

Roy so won that one, he landed so many "Right by Roy!" lol
I think Dominik Hasek would have been feared in his prime. He had the nickname the "Dominator" and has one of the most unusual goalie styles. So you redwings fans have had something proud with him. But now a days, he's way past his prime and should hang up the skates if you ask me.
Another player that should be feared by players and fans alike, Tie Domi. This is why, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QECEsZVrbMA Honestly Seko, it doesn't surprise me that this happened to a Flyers fan at all.
