Both seem to be Korean. Top one is a high official and bottom one is a general. Is that a katana I see?

El bandito was being quite general when he said "katana". Korean swords and Japanese are quite similar but different in a number of ways...for example korean swords do not have grooves...and also they can be two-sided, as opposed to the katana which are always one-sided. the general is holding a korean sword.

Ok...I know they're Korean...I was wonder specificly who they
were. I'm tenatively guessing that the first dude is Gen. Kim
Yushin...but that's just a guess...I know he's from the Shilla kingdom
b/c of his headgear. I'm not too sure about the latter.

The one in the middle is Chosun Kingdoms Admiral Yi Soon Shin. He defeated the Japanese Samurai fleet sent by Toyotomi Hideyoshi to invade Chosun and lead by Konishi Ukita, Wakizaka Yasuharu, and Kobayakawa Hideaki. Hes one of the greatest sea Admirals in history but hes only known to the Japanese and Koreans. I doubt westerners really know about him but in my opinion, as a non-Korean, this guy is greater than any Admirals of history equal to Sir Francis Drake and Sir John Hawkins and second only to Admiral Zheng He IMO. He destroyed a thousand Japanese pirate ships without the lost of one of his ships. He built the first submarines and ironclad ships while Leonardo Da Vinci was scratching his head on designing an early prototype of the submarine on paper and way before Americas ironclad submarines in the Civil War or the British Dreadnaught ships. During the Meji Restoration and up to WW2, he was deified as a god to the Imperial Japanese Navy. Im currently watching a show about him here in Chicago in the Korean Channel. The first four episodes features massive battles between the Chosun and Ming Navy versus the Japanese pirate fleet lead Konishi, Wakisaka, and Shimazu. I recorded the first four episodes in my TV tuner card.
Those who fight to live will die, those who fight to die will live-Admiral Yi Soon Shin
You may wish to compare me with Lord Nelson but do not compare me with korea's Admiral Yi Sun-Sin... he is too remarkable for anyone.- Admiral Heihachiro Togo IJN 1905

He was related to the royal line though..by being a descendent of King
Suro of Gaya..who's line intermarried with Shillas...
Well if it isn't Kim Yushin, who is it?

but even if he is related to the kaya royal line there is still no way that he could have had his portrait painted with a crown on his head...he was not king. It could be any of the 3-kingdoms age kings, Taejong Muyeolwang maybe?

The first one is Kim Yu Shin. That Crown has a story behind it - all Kims (only nobles had surnames) used Gold Crowns. And it is no coincidence that Kim has an obvious definition: gold. Shilla era did not restrict the use of golden ornaments to kings. Nobles had them also- that's my point.

Thanks a bunch Demon! Just as I suspected...
I have a few more questions...
Could this be Emperor Taeje of the Goryeo dynasty? (Wang Geon)
And could someone provide me some info on Jang Bogo? I know there
is a new drama about him called Haeshin...My knowledge is limited that
he is somehow connected to the sea and that he lived during the unifed
Shilla period...
Here's a pic

To say that Admiral Yi is greater than Drake, etc., is very subjective. Yi had a great record against the Japanese, but he never faced an opponent with equal or superior naval technology, AFAIK.
He also never invented a "submarine"--where did that story come from?

That would be a Continental Asian equivalent to a katana. In Chinese, it would be called a dao (saber), of which there are many varieties. I must confess that I don't know the Korean term.

Well, drake never had to build his own navy, build farms for his men, forge weapons for his men, etc. Yi basically made an entire army out of nothing. He's okay in that respect.

Good point...! Maybe he used a translation machine.
