Anyone know best way to search this subject: The name Bendi Patmahara keeps coming to my mind, strangely, I do not know why at this juncture. I assume it is a name, not a title or an object or place. I know it's strange, that's why I'm posting. Thanks

Maybe you mean Bindi Padmahara?  In Sanskrit Padma means lotus, and hara can mean bearing. I'm no expert on this type of thing but Padmahara is a not uncommon traditional name, it could mean lotus bearer or bearer of fertility or something like that.  Bindi is the dot married women put between the eyes and is a common given name.

I would assume that all of the above names have some meaning, if so, just what are the meanings?

With meanings, one might conjecture just how these names might have been translated into other languages!

For example, Dutch/Dutche=German=Alleman, etc.!

All surnames have meanings
Trivedi - means those who have knowledge of three vedas.
Dwivedi  is one who has knowledge of 2 vedas.
Chatur vedi one who has command over 4 vedas
Thripathi who teaches three vedas
Vajpeyi is one who conducts vajapeya (a vedic ritual).
Singh,Sinha,Singhania all had originated from sanskrit 'Simha' meaning lion.
All others are having meanings but I am afraid I'll not be able to explain all.
I have posted the details of Agnichayana in apost which has mention about vajapeya.

Is it cultural or religous?  I am pretty sure that I have seen Indian Christian women wearing it as well.

Kumkuma or Sindhoora is not exactly Bindi.
Sindhoora is worn by married ladies in their "Seemantha Rekha forhead(in the centre just below hair)

Duke, I think that you are now treading water! Really smart remarks like that will not get you anywhere here!

While I do not have any powers here, sometimes others also read these postings!

So, consider this as a non administrative warning! please?
