Hi Everyone,

I am a new member, and I do appreciate all the info presented under this poll. But my mom and dad are Anatolian Uz (Oguz), and I am very interested in the origins of Turkic people and their language.

I have been reading the thread for the last two days, but the pieces of information presented is kinda hard to copy and paste to form a text. I would really appreciate if anybody can name couple of publications or books that may be of help in me understanding the big picture on Turkic people and their origins.

That's a great thread!!!

Himm...Isn't there anybody who knows couple of books or publications to suggest. I thought this forum's purpose was to help people and exchange information. I guess I am wrong. Having such a broad knowledge on the topic, I guess "the moderator" Mr. Ihsan should watch his thread more closely, and answer questions like mine. After all, information is to be shared and spread.

Thanks anyway.

Murat

Hi Koltigin, I don't really know of any books on the origin or Turks.  However I did just run into this dictionary on Turkish dialects.  It's in English I think, and it covers Turkish, Azeri, Turkmen, Uygur, Ozbek, Tatar, Kazak and Kirgiz.  I found it in Amazon.com but I think they have a limited supply right now.  Here is the ISBN number - 0415141982.  Just paste the number into any online book store to see if they have it.  I know I'll be ordering my copy any time soon now.

That "Tanr'nn Trkleri" is not a reliable book, I don't recommend it.

For language, you can try Talt Tekin's books.

Welcome, btw

Thank you Feramez, Oguzoglu and Ihsan for the warm welcome. I will try to obtain the books. I guess I will need to get them from Turkey.

I was visiting a vintage books store in Atlanta this weekend, and I came across an old edition of The Empire of the Steppes of Rene Grousset. The book seem to contain a great detail of out history along with the Chinese Empire. Have you guys read it?

It is quite interesting to see that most of the time our history is written by foreign authors (esp. by Germans), and I guess that enables them to interpret the realities according to their own. I know that the history is supposed to be written free from politics, but most of the time, again, that seems not to be the case. I mean look at what is written about us during the Ottoman Empire period, or instead of our accomplishments on the arts, most of the time we are pronounced as "barbarians" who just killed people and destroyed cultures ruthlessly. Why we do not have good historicans that do write our glamorous history without buying into cheap nationalist trends?

That book is quiet old actually but you can buy it if you want, it's among the classics now

Most Turkish books are biased too.
