i was wondering; are there any comprehensive books of maps, esp. indicating political and geographical shifts of nations and civilizations throughout the ancient world, up to the modern period ?

most of my maps are sporadic; i thought about binding them together, but they'd be too incomplete.

Cassell do a series that span that time period with a slim atlas per period, quite good actually.
