there are some mistakes on that site ...
for example ...

Or it wants to say that greeks are always loyal subject to the empire, and use any flags that their rulers use ...

I when will they show that the sultuns were also greeks, because they ruled their land ...

It's the naval flag of the island of Samos which was a semi-indipended principality in the 19th century, paying tribute to the Sultan. The cross was to sympolize that the island is christian, the upper red part that it was tributary to the Sultan and the lower blue that it was Greek.

This is the normal flag, help by a policeman:

Yeia sou, Yianni!

Greek islands are marvellous! I've only been to Ios and Kerkyra (Corfu), during my interrail summers. I know that some were under venetian rule for some time (the Cyclades? Kriti?), besides the ottoman centuries, but I'll see if I can spend some more time getting to know those endless oasis that truly are the ellinika nisia!

One just has to love that Aegean thing...

Yeia!

Ios huh! Ok, you must have drunk a lot over there, everybody does, hik!

But I love Corfu, I always prefer wooded rather than bare islands!

Next time try Samos: www.samosin.gr

Geia sou file!

Indeed. In Corfu I stayed at the Pink Palace, where there was party going on all the time. Ios had a cool nightlife but it could be very relaxing at the same time. I recall one night when I was heading back to Mylopotas beach, I just lied there in the sand, listening to all that still sea...

Anyway, I come from a very green island in the Atlantic (Madeira) so I'm naturaly biased for green.

Hola is spanish, Ol is portuguese! (though I know that for someone who's not familiarized it's pretty much all the same) ----Madeira archipelago is portuguese, though very near the Canary Islands and Morocco.

Does each area have it's own flag?

I mean, does Macedonia use the sun symbol to represent itself etc...

The meaning of the modern Greek flag:

Cross for the faith, 5 blue lines for the syllables of the word "eleftheria" (freedom) and 4 white lines for the syllables of the words "i thanatos" (or death). "ΕΛΕΥΘΕΡΙΑ Η ΘΑΝΑΤΟΣ" = "FREEDOM OR DEATH".
Blue is for the sky and white for the froth of the waves.
