Cricket was imported by the Hannoverian King George II. to England. It was invented in Lower-Saxony in the early 13th century, and the name comes from the Middle High German " krick es", meaning "get it or catch it", (in modern German 'kriegen'-to receive, to get, to catch)

A lot of really clever ones here.

Documents of Douglas MacArthur's famous speech upon withdrawing from the Philippines omit the last word. In truth, the famous quote goes, "I came out of Bataan, and I shall return... home."

Well that's not exactly a total lie. There were times where they couldn't retreat, and so did not.

the netherlands are called holland in german . but not before the  german grimm's-law  . before it was called hochland what means highland, cause there  were a lot of hills and big mountains as well. but then an enterprising tradesman of the east-india company found out that the hills were made of
poffertjes. his company sold all this treats to the dispoiling barbarians like vikings , normans, saxons and so on. ad the end there were no hills anymore. so the germans called the country netherland. and therefore eyery winter the dutch people obsess the alps with their skis and will  get home with an aeroplane of the dutch air emergency.
The german singers "the jacobus sisters" had a number one hit with the song "in the dutch mountains "  in 1528 in the reformation  charts.
