In my opinion ; Kemer is probably meant to be " Duct " rather than a " trouser belt " .

kemer means belt in turkish. local villagers of kemer built a wall to the range of mountain for protect themselves from floods,so their village called kemer because of this wall.

I have to comment on Kemer. Absolutely magnificent I'd like go there once again. Oh well speaking of names, does anyone know what Kemer means?
As for the names of the cities, mountains, lakes whatever; they should be called in the language of the country which owns it. Otherwise people might think you're malicious.

Not important everybody does such things. For ex: Istanbul>Constantinapolis. or Sham>Damascus. or Elleda>Greece>Yunanistan.
As you see everybody changes names. Bytheway its name was Ararat before Turks.

Thanks Giannis..
would've been nice to get a Turkish perspective on it too.
From what I know, Sumela/Simela is quite a popular/common Pontian (ie Greek) name (for females) also.
