Can anyone give their opinions about how Ibn Battuta would have felt about the topic of social mobility?

Um... social mobility? Could you elaborate?

I know that he was among the first explorer less known to the world, but made many exploration that even surpassed Marco Polo...

Yeah sorry, not very specific. I mean social mobility as in should the sons of farmers be required to be farmers themselves etc. There was an opinion that in society merchants should stay in the markets, farmers in the field and so on to keep things stable. I was curious if anyone knew what Battuta's stance was. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_mobility

I don't actually know the answer, although Ibn Battuta was pretty socially mobile himself. Minor Judge, Diplomat, Courtisan and more

Well, Ibn Battutta, great traveller as he was, was somewhat of an elitist and a parvenu at the same time, who milked his position as a member of the ulama to the fullest and expected to be treated well, housed and given gifts everywhere he travelled. I'm guessing that had an effect on his opinions...
