One year ago in these days a strong earthquake destroyed ancient and medieval cities of Bam, many people were killed, Iran lost part of its history and I think December 26 will be remembered as a bad day in the history of Iran!

It was a tragic loss.   They showed a reminder of the tragedy on television a few days ago.  Hard to believe it was just one year ago.

Bam is still one of the most archaeologically rich centers in the Middle East and speaking as an archaeologist, the above surface monuments were a tragic loss for the Persian population and I mourn and remember with them.  Archaeologists and historians will always want to conduct research there, even after such horrific events, as I am sure tourists worldwide will still book passge to the Thai and Indonesian beaches, once the clean up is completed.  Both instances, I believe will see an economic rebound from tourism and scientific research and I have high hopes for these embattled regions.  All the best wishes!

It was indeed registered in UNESCO.  It was 2000 years old, and the largest mud brick structure ever constructed.
