Worldwide the most impact must surely be fast food restaurants. By far the most visible US culture everywhere.

The only uniquely American contribution I can think of, off-hand anyway, is jazz. Without America jazz wouldn't have happened.

There are a number of other technological, artistic and such innovations that first happened in America, but all of those I can think of would have happened somewhere else in pretty short order.

(That's true of most of those quoted above, except for television which was a British invention - though again the BBC was only a short distance ahead in introducing TV broadcasting.)

With regard to the internet, it depends what you mean. If you really mean the Internet, it was American, though it was built on the back of a lot of international work on networks. If you mean the world-wide-web then it was invented by a Briton (Berners-Lee) working in Switzerland.

I would say the development of the semi conductor leading to the microprocessor.

Shockley, Brattain and Bardeen are credited with the greatest contribution to the development of semiconductors and solid state transistors, gaining them a nobel prise in 1947.

I would say this alone is a magnificent achievement, as just about any piece of electronics bought today will employ semiconductor technology.

Not sure about television and the light bulb though padem.

The lightbulb was invented by a Dutch company, Philips.

GCLE, what about the blues?

I think that being able to travel to space is something we should give Russian civilisation credit for more than American. They were the first nation to breach the confines of earth's atmosphere, afterall.

Jazz for sure.

When I look at Europe, I see highways and cheaper building construction styles as an American contribution.  Not necessarily invented in America, but probably going after the American example, wouldn't you say?
