Have you read Gibbon's Decline and Fall?
Well, I partly have (small parts) and saw that his view on the Crusades is somewhat different from todays (although I haven't been able to read it completely yet). So what do you think makes the differences?
He was more a contemporary and had better sources or was his view enstranged by Medieva European ones?

Thanks,
Tried to read it, failed, that man just bugs me, can't read something when the author irritates me.
A tomb now suffices him for whom the world was not enough.
