Have you read Gibbon's Decline and Fall?

Well, I partly have (small parts) and saw that his view on the Crusades is somewhat different from todays (although I haven't been able to read it completely yet). So what do you think makes the differences?

He was more a contemporary and had better sources or was his view enstranged by Medieva European ones?

G contemporary of the Crusades??? Are you still with us? He wrote some 500 years after the fall of Saint John of Acre.

Well, but we have around 750 years in between so he was more of a contemporary then we. That is what I meant in the long run...

Please do wait for excerpts, I really don't have special time for writing them.

Tried to read it, failed, that man just bugs me, can't read something when the author irritates me.
A tomb now suffices him for whom the world was not enough.
