Hey does anybody know what weapons and armor did the Koguryo, Silla, and Paechke armies used? I heard that Koguryo armies used plate armor. Did they use shields? What kind of units were their armies composed of? If anyone has any pictures pleeese post them, thanks.

the ,manjority of footsoldiers in Korean armies never ended up with much armor in any era, though I know that in Koguryo era lamellar was adopted in higher quantities then before.

I know that Korean Forts were low and were placed over choke points/high grounds filled with trees, to maximize anti cavarly purpose.  It came as a consequence of Horse powers such as Koguryo.

I'll post some weapons later when I have time.

Sry for Double posting, so here is the Korean armyanything ending in goong-bow, no-crossbow)

Training Soldiers from Choson Dynasty.  You see that their clothes have shamanistic Influences

Korean Spears.  Though Korean swords were crap, Korean spears were dreaded even by China.

Korean Sword.  Short and Sharp. It had more symbolistic meaning rather than combat use.

Gak-goong.  Traditional Korean Bow.  Ranges to 360 meters.  Its about 145cm long.  Used since Koguryo Warriors till Choson.

Hand reloadable Crossbow.  Called sono(small crossbow).  Koreans were keen archers and mastered many arrow throwing devices, though it was China who invented it.  You insert the arrow in the hole, pull the string, and then chop!

Monster Bow.  called Paluno, because it took 8 cows to pull the string.  It had a range of 1.8km, and pierces 5 layers of steel each 1mm thick.  Used by Shilla to defeat all mighty Tang, Khitan.  Need to say more?

Korean Rocket Launcher.  It's called Hwacha.  It launches up to 100 explosive arrows named shinkichon.  Range of 200m~2km depending on the size of shinkichon.  Used to defeat khitans, normads, japs.

Turtle ship.  The first ironclad ship.  I can go 1 hr praising this ship and general Yee but I'll keep it for later.

Taekyon.  Korean Traditional Martial Arts since Koguryo.  Lots of kicks involved.

Koguryo Gema Warrior.  Gema means ironclad.  Notice how these horsemen had spiked shoes like in golf, so that they can kick infantry around.

Sorry for long posting.  I just love to praise my own nationality.  makes me feel special

From what I know scale mail was the armour of choice for most Korean dynastys except for the Gaya fedaration, which preferred plate armour
Ulji Munduk

Koguryo Ssirum wrestling

Yi Sunshin

Soldier Uniforms of 3 kingdoms

Koguryo arrows

Baekje arrows

Koguryo stuffs

Koryo Stuff

Joseon Craps

Gaya Fedaration armor

Ulji Munduk again

Kids practicing Taekkyon

Miscellaneous

Kwon Yul

Death of Yi Sunshin

Battle at Haengju Sansung

As you can see by the Josun age the armor for a low foot soldier really degenerates...there were some other pics i know of but i couldn't find them online for you, like a good picture of an armored Koguryo foot soldier...

YeaI couldnt find all of the pictures online because a lot of them were from a personal collection and I couldnt find them online.  If you want more pictures on the Imjin Waeran, or just want to know more about that war I suggest the book Samurai Invasion

Haha thx demon
These are the few that I have
Recently shown in the Hangook Ilbo depicts a fleet of Korean warships after the Imjin Waeran.  Shows a turtle boats.  Depicts them as having 3 stories instead of the accepted 2.  Also 2 boats are not iron clad wheras 2 are.  I also don't see any of the spikes on the ships.

ok that depends on who you ask!

But to the Japanese themselves in their language it is Nihon.  So I guess if you take things correct pronunciation as who they themselves say it its Nihon.  I dont know where Nippon come from, except that its what they use in EUropa Universalis 2.

It seems like the Koreans liked to use a turtle neck type thing in their armor. Was this very common?

ahh the turtle necky thingy....No from what I know it was only used in Koguryo armor....That's how you can usually tell a Koguryo calvalry man from the other ones....the turtle neck...ACtually let me revise that...it was prbly used in everyone's armor, but it is most common in the Koguryo Calvalry man...any other questions?
