How about these two scenarios. How would they have affected world history. I believe Alexander almost died in his first battle in Asia. What would have happened if he had? Or what would have happened if Alexander had lived. I believe there is some unproven evidence that he planned to invade Western Europe and Carthage. What if he did that? Could he then have returned to the east and conquered India also? How would the Romans have faired against him? I don't know how mature the legions were at that time.

Died- The adventure would have ended. The only thing keeping many of the troops from continuing was Alexander himself.  The result would be the same anyhow as what actually happened, the generals and advisors would squabble and take over the various areas he ahd already conquered in europer and hellenism of the east ended within a couple of generations anyway.

Lived-Again he had the huge empire but a battle weary army, made up of very few originals and many allies unable to conquer the massed forces of the already sophisticated roman legions (they were not a standing army, but were experienced with the italian wars of the same time) so i doubt he could have conquered rome, who would have ahd support from the other italian city states bot under her control.  As for carthage, they had already been subjicated to foriegn rule and i doubt they would resist. this was before the time of hannibal and the great militarism.  a macedonian takeover would prove threatening to rome however, as long as the macedonians hadnt been defeated before reaching carthage.

Yes, it is said that he had planned to invade Arabia, and subjigate Carthage, which in fact was the sister-city of the island-fortress of Tyre. He was enraged at the Carthaginians who attempted to aid the Tyrians during the siege and promised revenge on them.

He got sick on the day the Arabian campaign was to begin, and unfortunatly died.

He would have Conquered Carythage without a Doubht if he put his mind to it. The Military Reforms were not done yet and Caryhages Amry was a very Week fighting Force. Rome is another Story However. The other latin tribes as craig mentioned up above would have aided Rome. And Though the Roman Tribes were far away from the Glory they would one they have. They still knew how to fight and had Expieranced Troops. He may have had a chance all the Same. After all it was Alexander we are talking about. But he would Certaintly have had his hands full. Also you asked about still having time to go back to India. He would have but it would have delayed the Conquests for a long time.
