Farvardin 2 or March 22

Golestan Palace
In center of Tehran, Arg sq.

Golestan Palace is a former royal complex in Iran's capital city.

The oldest of the historic monuments in Tehran, the Golestan Palace (کاخ گلستان in Persian) (also Gulistan Palace) (Palace of Flowers) belongs to a group of royal buildings that were once enclosed within the mud-thatched walls of Tehrans Historic Arg (citadel).

The Arg was built during the reign of Tahmasb I (r. 1524-1576) of the Safavid dynasty (1502-1736), and was later renovated by Karim Khan Zand (r. 1750-1779). Agha Mohamd Khan Qajar (1742-1797) chose Tehran as his capital. The Arg became the site of the Qajar (1794-1925). The Court and Golestan Palace became the official residence of the royal family. The palace was rebuilt to its current form in 1865 by Haji Abol-hasan Mimar Navai.

During the Pahlavi era (1925-1979) Golestan Palace was used for formal royal receptions. The most important ceremonies to be held in the Palace during the Pahlavi era were the coronation of Reza Khan (r. 1925-1941) in Takht-e Marmar and the coronation of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi (r. 1941-deposed 1979) in the Museum Hall.

In its present state, Golestan Palace is the result of roughly 400 years construction and renovations. The buildings at the contemporary location each have a unique history.

The Kushk of Shams-ol-Emareh was built Ustad Muhammad-ali Kashi in 1867CE.

Marble throne terrace

The Marble Throne (Takht-e marmar) is a 250 year old royal throne in Tehran, Iran.

Kept in Golestan Palace today, the throne was transferred to its current location by the orders of Agha Mohammad Khan from Shiraz.

The throne was built in 1759CE for Karim Khan Zand. It was designed by Mirza Baba Shirazi Naqqash-Bashi and royal stonecutter Ostad Mohammad Ibrahim Isfahani. (Marbel taken from Yazd)

The throne's supports are carved in the shape of men, women, fairies, and demons.

Marble throne terrace is  opposite of  pool & used for Royal Audience or Salame Norouzi, The custom backs to Achaemenid era, The last Salame Norouzi was During Reza Shah 1925

The tall building behind the Marble throne terrace is Tax office, built by S.S German & called 1000 rooms building during Reza Shah, in fact it was Haram for Ghajar kings wives & Famous marbel slide was there

4 Farvardin=24 March

Sar dar-e Bagh-e Meli
Center of Tehran, Sepah St. (now IR called Emam Khomeini st. but who care?), 500m farther in north of Golestan Palace.
The largest part of Golestan was Haram (for King's wives) & had been extended to Sepah St. that later Reza shah destroyed it.

Today journey satrted from Sar dar-e Bagh-e Meli or Gate of Natinal Garden.
We have many post with it's pix b4, you may find some old Tehran pix here:
http://www.allempires.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=8764& ;PN=3

This gate was built in ~1922 (1301) when Reza Shah was Defence minister in Ghajar dynasty,
It was built for Meidane Mashgh (Ejocation yard for Soldiers) & Ghorkhane ( Weapon production) buildings, later some building destroyed & converted to park & Called National Garden & later some parts converted to building as
new building of Ministry of Foreign relations & Iran Bastan Museum.

red circle is above building, Old building of Ministry of Foreign relations
Brown circle: new building of Ministry of Foreign relations
the green is Museum of Post
The Brown is bulding of Ministry of defence
The blue is Malek National Library & Museum
Iran Bastan museum is 100m farther in the West

The 2 blue circles around curve is IR paint on Crown

& that round stainet iron under curve at top of gate is IR Censorship of Crown

The National Museum of Iran (in Persian: موزه ایران باستان Muze-ye Irn-e Bstn) is an archeological and historical museum located in Tehran. It preserves ancient Persian Antiquities including pottery vessels, metal objects, books, coins etc. It was inaugurated in 1937.

The museum consists of two buildings. Building number one is dedicated to the pre-Islamic collection, while Building number two consists of post-Islamic artifacts.

Building number one consists of three halls. The three halls contain artifacts from lower, middle, and upper paleolithic, as well as neolithic, chalcolothic, early and late Bronze Ages, Iron Ages I-III, through the Median, Achaemenid, Seleucid, Parthian, and Sassanid ages.

The post-Islamic part of the museum was inaugurated in 1996 and consists of three floors as well. It contains various pieces of pottery, textiles, texts, artworks, astrolabes, and adobe calligraphy from 1400 years of Islamic history in Iran.

The original museum (building I) was designed by Andre Godard, a French architect. It is located in central Tehran.

The oldest artifacts in the museum are from Gilan and date from The Stone age. There are also 9000 year old human and animal figurines from Teppe Sarab in Kermanshah Province among the many other ancient artifacts.
