Topic: Who really won the Space Race? Posted: 26-May-2008 at 15:09 |
I don't think we will know the real winner of the space race for another 50 years or so. The race never really ended, it slowed down, but now there are many countries involved and the race is picking up speed again. It will be interesting to see what country is the first to establish mining interests on the Moon, or to be the first to land humans on Mars.

To be the first in space, a manned craft, Russia hands down.
To the Moon, the USA.

Initially the Russian was winning then the US took the lead, then Europe took over from the US now Russia is back with avengence challenging Europe. For the future China and India both look like becoming players, Russia is getting stronger and stronger, the US has finally duimped the shuttle and got some decent payload rokckets, most interesting Europe has its new space jet engine, a regular plane engine that works in space, due to prototype within the next 5 years. If so regular planes will be able to fly into orbit with no jet propulsion.

Wasn't it Eisenhower that commented something like..
"Why are their Nazi rocket scientists beating our Nazis?" - re: Sputnik..
