QuoteReplyTopic: Academic research about Medieval Orthodox Balkan Posted: 15-Jan-2012 at 08:10
I would be interested in doing academic research about the Orthodox Balkan (Romania, Bulgaria and Yugoslavia (Serbia)). I am especially interested about the society and politics in the time of Vlad Tepes in Romanian history. I now have two questions about this:
1) Where in Europe is it possible to study and get good academic guidence at University level in this field? I would prefer England if possible.
2) Is it enough to know these languages to do good academic research in this field of history: 1. Romanian, 2. Bulgarian, 3. German (?), Serbian (?), Church Slavonic, 4. English, 5. French, 6. Italian (?), latin (?) and 7. Spanish. The languages followed by a question mark I am uncertain of. The langauges with numbers I would be very interested to learn even outside this specific field. Church Slavonic is a langauge I guess would be crucial, to be able to read the original written sources.
I would so much appreciate if anyone here could be able to comment and answer my questions about this. Thank you very much!
