Bush's statement was great condemning the death. Every other world leader presumed the public knew an assassination was a bad thing and talked of something else. Bush informed us an assassinanation was a bad thing...... Gee I never knew, thanks George if you hadn't spelt it out to them in slow motion kintergarden language.

He didn't spell anything out using kindergarten teacher techniques. He
sent condolences, condemned the killers as terrorists who he claimed
must be brought to justice, praised Bhutto. No slow and moronic
diversion into why assassinations are "bad".

Well, you say you didn't know. Geo II wanted to make sure you could understand it.
There are bigger issues here, so you really should keep your eye on the ball.

Yes, please, can we keep the topic of this thread on the assassination of Bhutto and not turn it into (yet another) Bush bashing thread.
I see the 'mainstream' appears to be denouncing this as 'terrorism'. Although I'm generally not big on 'conspiracy theories', I don't see it as much of a 'leap' to see this as a deliberate 'political assassination' rather than simply 'terrorism'. Is the 'rush' to attribute this to 'terrorists' really a 'backhanded' way of letting the current regime off of the hook?

Bush probably didn't even know who she was until yesterday. This is indeed a great blow to Anglo-American ambitions in Pakistan.

She should have expected an attempt against her life. It already happened once after her return in Pakistan.

She might have been involved in corruption before, but her return and ambition to be elected seemed genuine in helping her countrymen better represent themselves. I hope that Pakistan doesn't fall to Islamic extremists now that this formidable opponent was removed and as far as I know it seems that Al-qaeda was behind it. May she rest in peace.

Take the Anglo-American eulogizing with a grain of salt. After all she was their chosen emissary/pawn to carry out their intentions in Pakistan. The assassination was a horrible thing nonetheless.

The Power Vacuum and Assasination of Bhutto.
So now that Benazir is dead, who will fill her shoes? Very accomplished woman, except she was as corrupt as the rest of the male gang.
Actually not being corrupt in Pakistan or India would be the strange thing.

No she will not be missed.
She was a disater as PM, hopelessley inept and corrupt, promoted secetarian and ethnic tensions, an unreconstructed commie who caused the economy to go into a tailspin from which we have only recently recovered. No democrat either, she was a feudal, who ran her party with an iron fist, she has been "life chairperson" since god knows when. And she was talking about letting the Yanks in FATA and interview AQ Khan.
All in all no great loss to the political scene. It is only for her children and the circumstances of her death that I am aggrieved.

There are 3 things that Benazir proposed to the Americans that would make her a target of assassination.
1. Hand over AQ Khan (inventor of Pakistan's nuclear bomb).
2. Allow American troops into NWFP/FATA - meaning foreign troops in the nation.
3. Scrap Pakistan's nuclear project.
The only reason the Europeans and Americans are grieving for her more than the Pakistanis is because they lost their puppet. Whose strings will the pull now?
The reason the Pakistanis are grieving is because a sense of helplessness, lack of stability in their nation, foreign pressures, and the method of death of their PM.
She was corrup, but all politicians are. She didnt deserve to die the way she did.
