Interesante. Had a look at the pages on Las Casas and the "plague of superstition" and just about managed to read them. All this translation work seems to be paying off, though not so much that I'm ready to embarrass myself and insult anyone by trying to post in Spanish.

What follows is a link to the newpaper "La Aurora de Chile", published 200 years ago, during the Independence times. It is interesting because it show the thinking of the people of the time. It is like going in a time machine.
