22/02. 'the Circling Rock/Mountain' / ['the Moving Stone' / 'stone on moving mountain']:
“The 2nd wonder is in that place the mountain/largestone/rock that circles/rotates/moves/spins by 3 turns in the year / in a circuit” (- "Nennius".)
["Near Gloecester, a stone balanced on top of a mountain peak which moves." (- Liber Floridus.)]
The Circling Mountain/Rock seems to match something at Richborough [city of the legion] (&/or possibly something at Dover [Guinnion]?)
(i.) 3 (&) turns/circling (&) mountain/rock/stone match: The 3 turns a year is either 3 full circles or 3 thirds of 1 circle. The circling (&) rock/mountain might match the Round Table (of Wace) that "rotates like the World"? The RT is said to be at either/both city of the legion [amphitheatre at Richborough/Rutupis "red top"] &/or castle of "Snowdon/Isneldone"/"Windsor" [Dover/fort Guinnion]. ("Camelot" also seems to variously match either/both Richborough/"Legions" (eg incl cf white marble?) and/or Dover/Guinnion?) For Richborough: [There may be a connection of the 3 and mountain of the Circling Mtn with the name of Trimontium (Scotland) which we showed connects with bishop 'Tremounus of Legions' [like Dyfrig/Dubricius of Legions ~ Dubris/Dover (&/or Duo Rig Habren?)], & maybe connects with Triputienses/Rutupis (though this last name (not site) may link with Tribruit).] It was either the Circling Mtn or the Cruc Mawr that i saw another alternative possible candidate nearby Richborough in either a map or text, but i can't find what file the note is in (and/or not sure if may/not be one of the ones in the candidates list below). For Dover: The Circling Mt might link with the head of Bran via Slavonic Branjanj/Triglav? Bran's White Tower supposedly in London but "facing France" seems to be Dover/Guinnion. Snowdon has a pyramidical peak, and "Snowdon" in Arthurian matches "Windsor" and Dover and Guinnion. (There is a Snowdown not far from Dover.) [Compare Castle Ewen?]
(ii.) in "Mon(a)"/"Anglesey"/"Man"/"Manann" match?: This is "inserted"? and "in parentheses" and "is not clear where came from". "Nennius" seemingly may have analogously corresponded Anglesey and Thanet? (Some versions of Watling Str run from Holyhead or Segontium to Rutupi.) [Compare theory about Jutes of Thanet or Wight.] He may also have corresponeded the cliffs of Dover/Margate with raised beaches of Anglesey/Man. Anglorum/"Anglesey"/"island of Englishmen" fits Saxons/Jutes of Thanet/south-east. [Monapia recalls St David's/Menevia/Mynyw/Menyw in 12 Monasteries and in boar hunt (&/or possibly St Alban's)?] [There is also Minnis Bay near Reculver? Menfre/Minver of children of Brychan?]
(iii.) "in that place" may refer to "Mona", or possibly might refer to "the aforementioned region" of previous Wonder 21 which itself may relate to Ceredigion of Wonder 14 which we showed matches Richborough area.
(iv.) order/numbers match: The previous wonder (sealess shore) may match cliffs of Dover [Guinnion] or cliffs near Reculver [Bassas] (or Wantsum-Stour/Sandwich area?) The next wonders also seem to be in same region: swelling ford/shallows may be either Wantsum-Stour [Bassas] or Medway [Celidon]. [The number 19 in Lib. Fl. may match 9th battle site city of the Legion, and 9th wave?] [3 circles or 3 thirds of a circle may also connect with 9th battlesite/wave?]
(v) omitted in Irish: Is it coincidence or confirmation that the 4 wonders which we had found to certainly seem to match Richborough / city of the legion, that we also afterwards found they are same 4 that are omitted in the Irish version(s)?
[(vi.) "Gloucester" match: "Near Gloecester, a stone balanced on top of a mountain peak which moves." (- Lib. Fl.) [We have seen that circling rock matches Richborough.] "A giant salmon lives at Llynn Llyw, from where he travels/swims with the/each tide upstream to Gloucester." (C&O.) We have seen that Linn Liuan might be near Richborough/Ebbsfleet? "Llyn Lliwan, near the Wye and downstream of Gloucester." (Welsh C&O.) Wye is in one of the Wonders. The Wonders match our s.e. sites, and the Wye wonder migh be in the Kent area? "Goucester name from duke glouis son of claudius." Claudius invasion may have landed near Richborough/Deal. "Claudius built built Gloiuda, a great city , in British is called Cair Gloui, in Saxon, Gloucester upon the severn" We have seen that the "Severn" Wonders match our s.e. sites including Richborough. "Gloucester" of Arthurian might connect with "Glastonbury", or 140 churches city of lions/lyonesse (or many towered Camelot)? (Though "Gloucester" in 11 Consuls may be Glein/Gariannonum?)]
(vii.) tenuous other/extra minor possible supporting evidences/matches: The orthodox candidate is Lleidr Tyfrydog / Carreg Y Lleidr ["Tyfrydog's Thief" / the "Thief's Stone"] in Anglesey. Tyfrydog could possibly connect with either Afon Dyfrdwy / Chester ("city of the legion" corresponding/counterpart to Richborough "city of the legion"), or Dubricius, or Triputienses/Rutupi, or Dyffryn (boar hunt), or Tewdric (who may connect with our Camlan &/or Avalon site), or tewdwr (Cardigan/"cm"/Lampeter battle)? The Carreg might suggest a link with Sarre of Thanet district? [Could the thief connect with Tintagel/"Uther"????] The similar moving stone Tinglestone in Gloucs may indicate a link with Tintagel which we have suggested seems to be in the Thanet/Richborough/Deal area?
Candidates for the circling rock/mount include: Snowdon (pyramidical peak)? Bran's head (facing France)? round table ("rotates like the world")? Stonehenge [not far from our Mons Badon]? Meon? The Ruin ("cunning in rings, bound bravely the wallbase with iron")? amphitheatre at Rutupi? Harold's earthwork at Dover? lighthouse of Dover?? larger-stone Suffolk? mons graupius? tellus Rutupina? Trimontium? the stone Lleidr Tyfrydog or Carreg Y Lleidr ["Tyfrydog's Thief", or the "Thief's Stone"] at Clorach (run 3 times around its field on 1 night of the yr, Anglesey)? Pentre'r Felin stone (turns 3 times around a pool, in Gwynedd)? castle Dinas (on a rocky hill)? Castle Ewen (...)? Staeningham/Steyning (Sussex)? stonelees? stonar? Stone Cross? Mt Pleasant? turnpike road? woodnesborough mound/tumulus?
sources that circling rock/mountain mentioned in include: "Nennius"; [may connect with ["mobile"] Round table (of Wace etc) which "rotates like the world"?]
