“(the) Wonder three/third -/is the hot/fiery/calidum stagnum/pool/lake/waters/springs/h-uisce (, [in quo] balnea sunt badonis / where the baths of Badon are) ,/. (which/this is) in the region(s)/territory/country (of the) Huich/Hwicce/Buich/Huist//huiccorum ./andis/itis surrounded/encircled by a wall(,) made of brick and stone(,) and tothatplace/there men (may)go/rush at/during any/all time/seasons to bewashed/bathe and to each/every, as it may have pleased them, the bath thus may be made according to his own will: if he (may have) willed/wants, it/thebath will be (a) cold (bath), (and) if (he wants a) warm/hot (bath), it will be warm/hot.”
The hot lake seems to match Southampton/Clausentum/Bitterne &/or Portsmouth/Portchester/Adurni [Badon].
(i) hot lake match: The hot/fiery lake seemingly matches “The centre of Southampton is located above a large hot water aquifier that can provide Geothermal power to some of the city’s buildings. … and is the only geothermal power station in the UK. … and hot water to a city centre district heating scheme….” [Some suggest that Salisbury/Sorbiodunum might be related to Solsbury/Aquae Sulis/Sulis Minerva/Sul(is) (Bath)?]
(ii.) bath/s match: The bit in brackets/italics "where the baths of Badon are" is not in some versions and scholars consider it may be an addition. Geoff. of Mon. also has “Badon’s baths would loose their hot water / shall grow cold”. The “Baths of Badon”/"Bath" may match the bath/bath-house at Clausentum?
(iii) Badon/"Bath" match: The bit in brackets/italics "where the baths of Badon are" is not in some versions and scholars consider it may be an addition. We have shown in our 12 battles paper that the 9 battle sites of "Arthur" match the 9 south-east [Saxon Shore] sites, with Badon matching Adurni/Portchester/Portsdown hill (&/or Bitterne/Clausentum). The orthodox Badon at Bath or Buxton is not stategic and not linked with 8 other battle sites and not attested number 9 in a list of nine numbered sites, etc.
(iv) Hwicce match: Hwicce (said to maybe mean "locker, chest, trunk", or "wise/wicca" [or, "dry"?], or h-uisce "waters") could connect with either Itchen river &/or isle of Wight &/or Southwick &/or road to Wickham &/or Hamwic (Clausentum) &/or Titchfield haven &/or Gewis(s(a)e)/Wessex? (Though I know wic(k)/vik may mean "village" or "dairy farm" or "buildings" or "dwelling/camp" or "bay/creek".) [It doesn't look like Hwiterne could connect with Bitterne as i once wondered/considered?]
(v.) brick & stone wall match: this could match that there was a stone defensive wall around Clausentum/Bitterne (and round ballistaria towers)? &/or could match with that Portchester/Adurni was surrounded/encircled by a wall (“circuit walls”) built of “flint with brick and stone”/“coursed flint” (+ semi-circular bastions)?
(vi) order match?: the first 4 wonders seem to go from Lemanis [Tribruit] to Portsmouth/Southampton [Badon]? The previous wonder #2 Trahannon may be the Test/Antona or the Arun or other [between Lemanis [Trirbuit] and Portsmouth/Southampton [Badon]]?
(vii) salt match: the 3rd hot lake wonder is "in the same place" as the 4th salt fountains wonder which also seems to match the Salisbury/Bitterne/Southampton/Havant/Portsmouth area. The ‘lower/second salt way’ runs from Salinae/Droitwich to s.e./Winchester/Hampshire coast/Clausentum/Portchester. There was/is a “Saltmarsh east of Southampton”. [Possibly compare name Bitterne (though it is said to be from byht+aren "house near a bend", or "butter")?]
(viii.) "Nennius": "Nennius" wrote both the 12 battles and the Wonders which both "coincidentally" match the same 9 south-east sites. Orthodox have "Nennius" romping from Lomond to Lincoln to Anglesey to Cardigan to Bath.
The main location candidates for hot lake include: Southampton geothermal? lake of fire? lyncalidor ("loch Lomond", AltClut)? hypocaust at Gariannonum? hypocaust at Pianted House of Dover? Arthur's Oven? Bath (incld in hwicce, predates the Romans)? warm spring at Hotwells, (Clifton, Bristol)? warm spring Buxton (Darbyshire, Camden)? hicce/hitchin (Essex)? The Ruin? Atlantis? Baden? bath complex at Wroxeter near Droitwich? Taff's Well (warm spring near Cardiff)? Hotwells Spring (Little Newcastle)? village of Warmwell (Dorset)? two Penegoes Wells (Montgomeryshire/Powys)? Ffynnon Elan (near Gelli'r Pentref Dolwyddelan, Wales)? Ffynnon Lygaid (Llanfynydd Bog, Carm.)? a "Hot Baths" spring at Glastonbury (one Life of St David)? walme spring Newnham Regis (Warwickshire, Camden)? A spring known as Funnon Syell/Su-ilth/Ffynnon Sul/"(St.)Sunday's Well" (behind Kilwelly/Kidwelly Castle, near Swansea)? St.Tysilio/"Sulien"?
sources that #3 the hot lake/"baths of Badon" is in include: "Nennius"; Geoff of Mon.
