League of Nations was the precursor of the UN. It was created after WWI by the winning powers. Due to the largest power, USA, not participating it became quite ineffective. Guess that Big 4 refers to USA, UK, France and Russia, the largest of the allied powers. US President Wilson presented the 14 points that bear his name that basically stated that nations (ethnic groups) had the right of self-determination. This principle was only applied partly to the crumbling Austro-Hungarian Empire and in few other cases. See:

The 369th infantry was an all black unit
commanded by white officers nicknamed the Harlem Hellfighters.
