The cause of his death is in dispute, although there's no suggestion of foul play. The best candidates so far are cholera, gastroenteritis, food poisoning, or typhoid. I think his own doctor believed it to have been cholera.

What a handsome figure of a dragon. No wonder I fall madly in love with the Alani Dragon now, the avatar, it's a gorgeous dragon picture.

President James K. Polk is also believed to have died of cholera.

From www.dailykos.com/.../-THE-STRANGE-DEATH-OF-ZACHARY-TAYLOR
The indisputable fact is this: Zachary Taylor, the twelfth president of the United States, died on July 9, 1850. The official version tells us that he died from being exposed to the July sun for too long and then eating cucumbers, cherries, and/or iced milk.
