The Normans were noted and highly-skilled proponents of the use of mounted warfare, but, as they were descended from famous infantrymen, the Vikings- who founded Normandy, what was the turning point?

By 1066 we know that they were expert and fearless early cavalry, possibly operating to flag/trumpet signals, milites charging in a series small squadrons, wave after wave, headlong into the Saxon shieldwall and spears/axes.

Were they, in the early days of the Normans (from 911 when Rollo founded the state), inspired by the Frankish cavalry whose society they inter-married and mingled, famously formed by Charles Martel soon after his crushing victory over the Moors at Tours, 732?
