I just started playing Civ 4 beyond the sword and i was wondering if any one could give me some tips on how to use spys effectivly. Also any other game tips and or strategies.

I rarely use spies, because spending the gold on research is a much saner approach, usually. Anyway, some spies actions are quite powerful (poison water supply for example can half the population of a size 8 - 12 city. AI used this against me once, not very enjoyable). Also, destroying a tile improvement is another good use (eg in wartime, depriving the other side of their strategic resources). I know this thread has been inactive for some time but....
My advise for this game is : Build your infrastructure and defenses before concentrating on offensive units. Research as much as you can. Never enter into a war you cant win (take out smaller civs first).
