South East Asia is geographically to the east of the Indian Subcontinent and to the south of China.

Known during the classical times by Greek astronomer, Ptolemy, as Aurea and Labiduis is only proof of the interest shown by the world of this small tropical corner of the globe. In fact, in an ancient Hindu text this area may have been known as Suvarnabhumi, which translates to “land of gold”.

This wealth continued to soar up until the 90’s, where the Asian Tiger economies (as they were known) hit financial crisis. Now recovering from this crisis, the population of South East Asia stands at above 593 million people spread over the 4,000,000 km2 with a large proportion living on the Indonesian island of Java.

The purpose of this forum is to promote SE Asian history, which until now has not fared to well on Allempires. Please note that Allempires does not consider SE Asia to be a sub-branch of South Asian history. The reason it has been kept as a sub-forum is due to the lack of posts existing on it. If it is popular enough then will become a separate forum in the future.

So enjoy this new sub-forum and happy debating.

Here are a few pictures from my recent holiday in Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Langkawi. Enjoy:

Kuala Lumpur City Center

Kuala Lumpur City Center again

This was taken near the war memorial in KL. At this point I am wishing I had brought sun glasses!

The war memorial in KL

This is a fountain in KL. IF anybody knows the name of it please let me know

The only dirty place I had seen in the whole of KL, the Sri Mahamariamman Temple

This is in the Genting Highlands, a mountain resort 2000m in the air! This place has it all from casinos to theme parks with a shopping mall!

The beatifullest site I have seen in the world.

In Singapore

You may have guessed by now I like buildings. This is also in Singapore.

Ok there is a story behind the next one. I had gone parasailing and didnt hear the instructions clearly. This meant i didn't know how to land! I ended up landing in the water. This is me after coming out of the Indian Ocean:

When I was studying in England, my Malaysian friend proudly told me that his country is indeed very blessed geographically since it is a country without any natural disasters - it does not have earthquakes (or tsunamis - as testified by the fact that the recent Indian Ocean tsunami did not affect Malaysia) and volcanoes; even typhoons that affect most east and southeast Asian countries do not reach Malaysia. The weather is always nice and warm.

How did you guess my holiday?! You were that girl stalking me there weren't you?

That is exactly the trip I did! By the way, I took the road upto Genting. I must admit it made me sick trying to get up there (all the turns).

Your country is so fricking beautiful I'm so jealous! Not only that, the people I saw were all beautiful too.  Also, everything was so clean! They could never turn London into anything resembling KL, chavs and rudeboys alone would ruin it.

I do have more pictures, I may add them later but it takes time (I need to edit them so that I can upload it to the AE server).

The one problem I did have in KL was the haze. The visibility was absolutly poor, as you can see from my pictures.

The people I went with were into shopping too much. I didnt get a chance to stroll through the park in the city center, which looked so romantic (when I get married I plan on having the honeymoon there) at night from my hotel window.

Perhaps you just have a bad camera? I'd guess this option more being the correct one.

On the more formal note, I will give my contribution as much as it is, wholeheartedly to the SEAH[sf] (which, in my brilliant abbreviation's list differs greatly from SASEAH) and I do hope that it's amazing history will be much more noticed in the future by essays or works of any sort.

Thanks,

unfortunately... i guess this subject... i mean.. thread.. or topic... well ..

the History of South-East Asia...

seriously... is the most unfamous among other subs/topics/threads (whtever it called) in this forum..  sad to say.. very less participation from members. Do something... or this sub/topic/thread will be History.

See last reply in here from OMAR - 17/03/07.

It's not this topic that has to survive but the subfora itself. You could boost this one - what can you tell us of Malaysian history? Before the colonizations?

I think as Rider has said, this thread's purpose was just the introduction of the subforum. However, there are many threads in the subforum which are actualy not that outdated. Smile
