Well the Korean War was just an offshoot of WWII and was the first battle of the Cold War. It just doesn't fall into a nice category. Also in the grand scheme of things nothing was gained and the nations are still at war so....

yeah nothing effectively was accomplished by anyone.  It would have been best if the UN forces had stopped in 50 after booting the commies out and not crossed the paralel.

It was relatively short, isolated to the Korean peninsula, and ended with basically a status quo peace.

Ah I see.  I've also been starting to hear about the Vietnam War as "the other forgotten war."  Has anyone else?

Old movies about Vietnam War can be found many on the list of Hollywood. As for Korean war, how many about it you can find?  In fact, most Chinese like Americans, for they help us in WII,when we fight Japanese invasion(though they help us for their own interest).

If Korean war was emphasized again and again in USA, it's equal to emphasize the hatred between the two great people.  I guess the war was forgotten by America on this purpose.

It has been said here that nothing was gained from the Korean War,would not have millions more Koreans lived the past fifty years in a brutal Stalinist type communism?

that is true, it was right to protect south korea, but the counter attack into the north is the mistake, it made China get involved and killed many more people for no different a settlement.

We should have invaded China and ended the cold war there, then perhaps all the world would be on equal footing.

Actually, the PLA is doing a good job destroying the South Korean armies that Mac Arthur sent to cover his own advances and reterats. The PLA did not do fantastic jobs in destroying the US forces...though there's a Turkish brigade that fought hard and heroically. I am just sad that Turkey, which has given so much to the UN and NATO, doesn't even have a place at EU.

"We should have invaded China and ended the cold war there, then perhaps all the world would be on equal footing."

If you had, the result would have been the complete opposite of what you thought it would have been.

Just because UN forces got close to China, China sent an army into Korea and pushed back the US and SK troops. What makes you think that SK would've been able to invade China successfully while the US was not able to?

What Makes you think he was talking about SK?  He meant UN.

UN could not possibly have the strength to invade China. They're already struggling with the Chinese and North Koreans in the Korean peninsula already.

And I think the failure of the UN to even make North Korea capitulate is already rather clear.

With Chinese human recources and Soviet technologyt he alliance was undefeatable. At least USA got another colony our of it as did the Soviet Union. Now that the SOviet Union has collapsed and lost all it's colonial possessions(Eastern Europe and parts of Asia)  The countries that effectively became USA colonies( Japan, SK, and Western Europe) are now joining with former Soviet Colonies and abandoning USA. There might be a reunification of Korea sometime in the next 50 years.

Only problem is that the Chinese and Russians didn't get along very well during the Cold war. In fact, they had different sizes of railroads along their borders so that they can't put troops across. To me, China really got lucky in the Korean War. First of all, the UN side had an idiot general<he was doing great in WW2, don't know what happened to him here, maybe too cocky> while the Chinese had a military genius. Then there's also the death of Mao's son in the war. If he hadn't died, then probably China would be nothing but a bigger N. Korea.

I don't think the death of a leader's son can be attributed to how China didn't become a big North Korea. Rather, it goes on to show how the Chinese officer cadres were really leading by example. The early Chinese Communists were extreme idealists.

Mao also have a daughter. Why didn't she come to power?
