I can even propose that it means "Salad with Din dressing!" and it may well be just as correct than anything else proposed here!

Just prove me wrong?

Funny how the letters "hattin" seem to have become part of his name! Just whom can explain it?

And when this was written; "Originally posted by Moustafa Pasha

His real name in Arabic is Salah El Din Yousef Ibn Ayoub known in te islamic world as Khalifa Salah El Din El Ayoubi, who united the Moslem world and defeated the crusaders."

Is not Ibn Ayoub the same as Ben Ayoub or even Din Ayoubi? Hebrew and Arabic seem to me, at least, to be very similar. Thus these prefixes mean "Son of .....", etc.

And the name "Yousef" must, in the same light become Joseph!

Do you suggest that the word/place "Hattin" could be a part of his name?

If so, then maybe his name is named because of his victory there!

Pre-Islamic Arabs did have the concept of heaven and hell (although not quite the same as in latter periods) like all Semitic peoples. Just as Islam didn't introduce Allah to the Muslims (''El/Allah/Ha'El/YHWH" was the god of the Proto-Semitic people even), it didn't introduce heaven or hell.
